Nokia 8 officially launches in Singapore at S$769

http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/tech-news-nokia-8-officially-launches-singapore-s769

The Nokia 8 will officially begin retail in Singapore at S$769, starting on 14th October 2017. Color variants are Polished Blue, Tempered Blue, and Steel.

Here’s HMD Global’s official stance on the Nokia 8’s competitive sticker price in Singapore:

“We understand consumers enjoy the experience of a pure Android smartphone and with the Nokia 8 at under SGD 800, we are offering more consumers that experience and the full features and capabilities of our Nokia flagship smartphone.” – James Rutherfoord, VP at HMD Global, APAC.

Here’s a quick recap on the phone. It comes with a flagship-tier processor – Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 – and the latest stock Android operating system, Android 8.0 OS (Oreo). HMD Global is partnering Zeiss optics for the dual-rear cameras on the Nokia 8; the lens-making firm provides consultation and quality testing. The primary rear camera shoots in regular RGB format, while its secondary rear shooter snaps in monochrome - similar to Huawei's flagship phones. Besides its unique “Bothfie” livestreaming feature where it simultaneously engages both front and rear cameras, the phone also packs Nokia’s 360-degree audio software, OZO Audio.

Nokia 10 to come with penta-camera setup

https://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_10_might_come_with_pentalens_camera_setup-news-29258.php

gsmarena_002.jpg

Nokia delivered some of the best cameraphones through the years dating back to the N95, the808 PureView and the Lumia 1020 . According to a leak from the Chinese social network Baidu, a concept phone with five lenses positioned in a circle, coupled with a LED flash, might be the next glorious installment in that series.

Sources suggest the phone will be named Nokia 10 and could arrive as early as IFA 2018 in Berlin this September. Although we are thin on the details, the design also reveals the upcoming phone will have a fingerprint scanner on the back, right below the revolver barrel-like camera setup. The same source also mentions Snapdragon 845, which in theory can connect up to 7 different cameras with support for up to 32 MP, 4K video recording and dual phase detection.

Finally something different from Nokia.  [bounce2]

Pretty disappointed that this phone only comes with:

- 5.5 inch screen (5.7 inch will be better)

- Qualcomm 835 processor (845 will be great)

Else it will be a perfect phone for my replacement.  [smallcry]  Maybe I just wait for the new Nokia 9 at the end of the year?

Time will tell if this is a great Nokia flagship when it arrives our shores.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco is a curved glass Android flagship with no headphone jack

The Nokia 8 Sirocco is powered by Qualcomm’s 835 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. At the center is a 5.5-inch pOLED display (2560 x 1440) that looked like it had good viewing angles and calibration during my brief look at the device. HMD is also using a dual-camera system at the rear with a 12-megapixel primary camera and ZEISS optics. The front-facing 5-megapixel camera also has a wide-angle (84-degree) lens for selfies, and of the software will support HMD’s “bothie” mode to take a photo using both the front and rear cameras simultaneously.

While the camera software on the Nokia 8 was rather underwhelming and basic, HMD is upgrading it for the Nokia 8 Sirocco. There’s a new Pro Camera mode, and it’s rather similar to what you might have found on the old Nokia Lumia devices. It provides manual control over the camera settings in a radial menu, with options to change white balance, focusing, ISO, shutter speed, and exposure compensation. It’s useful if you like to get more control over what you’re shooting.

As HMD has switched to a glass device, there’s also wireless charging on the Nokia 8 Sirocco. While that’s a welcome addition, HMD has decided to kill the headphone jack on the Nokia 8 Sirocco. You’ll need to use USB-C or Bluetooth headphones, or make use of the USB-C to 3.5mm headset adapter in the box. The Nokia 8 Sirocco will be available in April priced at 749 euros ($920).

Alongside the Nokia 8 Sirocco, HMD is also launching two mid-range devices. The Nokia 7 Plus has the same camera system as the Nokia 8 Sirocco, but it swaps the glass exterior for a ceramic coating on an aluminum chassis. The Nokia 7 Plus includes Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage.

The 6-inch LCD display (2160 x 1080) on the 7 Plus is 18:9 so it’s extra-tall, but the device still feels more like a 5.5-inch handset. The bezels look similar to Google’s Pixel 2 XL display, and HMD has placed the fingerprint reader at the rear to help with that. HMD plans to make the Nokia 7 Plus available in April for 399 euros ($490).

HMD is also introducing a refreshed Nokia 6. The new Nokia 6 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 processor, with 3GB of 4GB of RAM, and 32GB or 64GB of storage. HMD has moved the fingerprint reader to the back of the 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080) device, and added a 16-megapixel camera at the rear with ZEISS optics. The updated Nokia 6 will be available in April priced at 279 euros ($343).

All of HMD’s latest Android-powered phones (with the exception of the Nokia 1) will join Google’s Android One initiative. It’s a program that’s designed to provide pure Android on handsets, and something that HMD had been doing before. This will mean Nokia-branded Android phones will get the latest monthly security updates, and stick to Google’s vision of Android design and UI.

Feb 2019? My phone cannot tahan till then already.

Somemore Snapdragon 845 should be outperformed by a new processor by 2019.

Nokia 9 launch reportedly delayed to February 2019

https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/09/17/nokia-9-launch-reportedly-delayed-to-february-2019/

With five cameras on the rear side, Nokia 9 may integrate each type of camera sensor ever seen on a phone: monochromatic sensor, wide-angle lens, telephoto lens and so on. And obviously, the sensors will be co-engineered with Carl Zeiss. The photo shows the Penta camera setup together with the LED flash in a revolver-like configuration with a sensor in the middle.

Do you think Nokia will once again become the company launching the best camera-phone like the good old times?

We have been hearing about the Nokia 9 flagship since late 2017, after the launch of Nokia 8. But HMD Global still haven’t showcased it, and it looks like it will not happen anytime soon. It was initially rumored to be launched at the beginning of 2018, but instead of this device, HMD Global decided to unveil the Nokia 8 Sirocco with Snapdragon 835 from 2017. Sirocco should have been released at the end of 2017, but it was delayed. Now, according to new reports, the announcement for the last quarter of this year has been canceled as well, so the handset will be launched in February 2019 rather than in Fall 2018.

According to the most reliable hypotheses, Nokia 9 will be showcased at MWC 2019 just like its predecessor. Sadly, there is no official confirmation about the launch date, so these remain only speculations. At this point, we just hope that it will not come with the Snapdragon 845 chipset as in February there will already be some 2019 flagships with the most recent Snapdragon 855 SoC which will be announced by Qualcomm soon. Nokia 8 Sirocco did not have a huge success, and we believe that most of the fault has to be attributed to Snapdragon 835 chipset which powered 2017 flagships. According to recently leaked schematics and real photos, this flagship will be the first phone in the world to sport a Penta camera setup with five sensors on the back side.
