As you mention, you read only........Unlikely LTA will allow such loopholes

I read somewhere that some distributors resort to giving small inch rim (think is Audi) in order to comply within certain emission spec.

If true, this is so ridiculous that the rule can be overcome by this. Says a lot about the testing standards.

Why ridiculous? You don’t understand it which is why. Emissions are measured in grams per kilometer g/km. Thus the vehicle has to move and propel itself on the road which is the exact usage of the vehicle in relation to exhaust emissions.

Tires, wheels, weight, auto transmission all affects the emissions g/km.

Of course the car manufacturer can “cheat” by giving smaller wheels and eco tires. But this also affects handling and the size of brakes than can be used.

In the end there are trade offs. There is no testing method which can cover all angles. Whatever lines and categories one draws, there will always be corner cases which can slip in between.

Ok. If this is indeed so, then the car in question should have it documented that it is constrained to the stated rim size that gave it its emission status. The check should form part of the routine vehicle inspection.

Same as the ECU which can be re-tune part.

People can do anything after purchase but for inspection, have to conform back to  original passing spec.

You have mentioned correctly that there are so many variables, so all the trouble of doing this to justify a "greener" car is really so? I am not sure.

Tires affect quite some too. Should we also constrain it? Weight of the vehicle too! Edited by Mkl22

Whatever figures and test is just pure gimmicks only. Who do not understand that all these are just another way for them to make more money?

Simi Green project is all bulls talk only.

Nothing wrong since people are willing to pay. The car industry will not collapse, But if VES causes the ADs to close down and jobs are lost, then its very wrong.

what's wrong to collect more money? [sly][laugh]

one dealer close shop ... another 2 dealers open shop

the market will simply adjust and find its equilibrium

car buyers just have to pay more and more only [bigcry]

pay more and get smaller and smaller 16-inch wheel [laugh]

Wheels are small matter. Look at the Elantra. They take out so many features, reduce the specs till OMV about 12K to make more profits. Yet people think its good value for money. This is uniquely singapore

Komoco is one of the smarter AD. They squeeze omv to under 20k for pricing competitive advantage.

Anything to lower emissions.

Rims, spoilers and etc grilles play a huge role in the coefficient of drag..

Add some roof rails and your precious FC goes out of the window..
