I read our minister say how much money our saf save.... but my experience with my reservist unit feels the exact opposite.

It feels like they have to spend their Budget else it will be cut next year kind of feeling. I am curios is it like a widespread kind of thing or it’s just my unit? My unit is not conbat fit so maybe it is different from mainstream saf.

of course save money......nsf and reservist allowance how much nia? But wastage i am not sure about it......during training all hungry like fark. Especially if given the old combat rations.....we dont throw, we exchange with those who prefer that kind of food. Usually i take the sardines in exchange for the braised chicken. If cookhouse food, sure finish wan! Our cooks have been with us since recruit times and our co will always use the same cooks. Other units i am not sure.

My medical platoon. Two lawyers. One apparently doing divorce case. Another one don't know what field. Two doctor with pte clinic. Seeing their size doubt they can even finish 2.4.

The next level don't know what GM, property agent (this guy drive a 5 series), engineer and don't know what middle level management type post.

The lower level. Another one boss of a food court stall. Got one fried kuai tia at one of hougang coffee tiam.

The lower of lower. Office boy me.

Etc etc

Platoon line lucky saki. Two bosses engineering firm. One in air con industry the other one don't know which company. engineer, auditor. Some fly here fly there disrupted until misses don't know how many ict.

NS make up pay won't be low I reckon except my case.

But one thing in common. All when put on monkey uniform behaved just like school boy. Chao ta dee, powder fight, read sing ming/wang bao (look at those juicy news), watch M113 water fight with jet spray. Hahaha miss those times.

most people including me really look forward to reservist

it is a break from our real live daily work

often first or second day follow motion and frankly nobody really cares very much. CO beg and please here and please there

i remember one field camp, we all take turns to bath at the construction site next door and there are people who came around to take orders on what to buy from near by hawker centre.

I remember also during briefing, someone mobile phone rang, He was carrying 4 or 5 phones because he was an oil trader.

Our best defense if there was a war that time, we probably ended the war much eariler than expected because

1. either we all get killed within a day

2, or more likely we became friends  because we can share bathing facilities and good food

NS is not going away and 2 years or so is also not going away. The reason being if there were no NS, what do you think will happen to our employment status and workforce. In no time there would be riot.

Yes...CO beg..hahaha

I remember My PC came and said..你们不要害我! Go take cover..we were doing naughty things then. Playing Chao da dee on the ram door. Nos 4 Button all lossen up. No sbo. No arm. Some smoke. Some read wanbao/sin ming in the mid of enemy hold and retreat movement. Hahaha wtf...was really fun.

There was one incident..behind 46 gate in mid of supposedly night movement. Ram down set fire, cook maggie mee few meters away from the M113. We did task one guy to see water. He failed. He thought the rover was going into 46 gate. Who know what the f**k came straight at us. Too late. the tester ( in rover)..ask what the f**k we were doing.. all act blurr. No punishment as it nothing happened. Probably that tester also eat snake go back camp for shower. So didn't report us.

we all laugh..

I fully support NS but I feel not all NS deployments are properly planned and did what they are suppose to do. The people at HQ did the planning blindly but the people at the unit just go through the motion. There is no accountability.

I belongs to the batch that serves almost 5 cycles then someone decides it should be 12 year cycle. I ended up doing quite a lot of reservist. That is fine but we are a group that were trained in some specialist work. For the mere 1-2 week, there is noway anyone would allow us to go near the equipment because who is going to follow up after we leave? But HQ schedule it, they just let us 'finish' the duration doing nothing or some rubbish.

I feel very sad seeing NS boys on duty during National Day duties, they were cheap labour deployed freely. This defeat why they were serving NS.

on my second last ict, company wanted to defer ... so wrote in to the camp.

CO called me and asked me if i wanted to defer or not ... and i said no.

so he said he will reject the deferment application and i happily went back to camp for my free meals !

we paid a villager to give us a ride in his van to the last cp during our navex exercise in taiwan..ð¤£ð¤£ð¤£. Walked from morning till around 9pm at night and still got 1 bloody cp that was just off the main road but rather far from the previous cp that was on a mountain. The villager cooked for us maggi and her hubby drove us within sight of the last cp. Paid about 400-500 nt for the ride....ððð

Paying villager probably only happen in reservist. I doubt active soldier dare to pull such stunt. Hahaha...my platoon mate always tell our OC/PC. We are old but we are street smart. The result that count. OC/PC all lppl. They are also reservist themselves1
