How are your reservist training like?

I fully support NS but I feel not all NS deployments are properly planned and did what they are suppose to do. The people at HQ did the planning blindly but the people at the unit just go through the motion. There is no accountability.

I belongs to the batch that serves almost 5 cycles then someone decides it should be 12 year cycle. I ended up doing quite a lot of reservist. That is fine but we are a group that were trained in some specialist work. For the mere 1-2 week, there is noway anyone would allow us to go near the equipment because who is going to follow up after we leave? But HQ schedule it, they just let us 'finish' the duration doing nothing or some rubbish.

I feel very sad seeing NS boys on duty during National Day duties, they were cheap labour deployed freely. This defeat why they were serving NS.

NDP usually is a showcase for the BG.

Greatly organised one will likely to be entrusted to great 2nd career.

But it's important to have celebration for the "whole" country. Show of might to foreign dignitaries.

On the NSF deployed.

They are being train for

Crowd control.

Event coordination.

Drills and precision.

on my second last ict, company wanted to defer ... so wrote in to the camp.

CO called me and asked me if i wanted to defer or not ... and i said no.

so he said he will reject the deferment application and i happily went back to camp for my free meals !

Last few ICT usually just want to finish serving them.

my group also had a ministry of dunno what asst director or something .... but he came back a few times.

They've already calculated.

Majority won't get too highly paid before 40s, Officers no choice..

But these people are supposed to be leaders doing planning work.. justified to pay higher if they command that salary outside.

But if they are low pay or jobless, then it's a bonus to saf.

Yes...CO beg..hahaha

I remember My PC came and said..你们不要害我! Go take cover..we were doing naughty things then. Playing Chao da dee on the ram door. Nos 4 Button all lossen up. No sbo. No arm. Some smoke. Some read wanbao/sin ming in the mid of enemy hold and retreat movement. Hahaha wtf...was really fun.

There was one incident..behind 46 gate in mid of supposedly night movement. Ram down set fire, cook maggie mee few meters away from the M113. We did task one guy to see water. He failed. He thought the rover was going into 46 gate. Who know what the f**k came straight at us. Too late. the tester ( in rover)..ask what the f**k we were doing.. all act blurr. No punishment as it nothing happened. Probably that tester also eat snake go back camp for shower. So didn't report us.

we all laugh..

Younger one probably doesn't know how to play mind game with their superior. Not that streets mart I reckon. If PC/OC all reservist do they smwant to go through the trouble to charge you. Must see situation.

actually I was looking forward to my ICTs every year ... like some would say, a break from work.

the only downside was travelling from tampines to PLC every morning during the rush ... or having to cover the midnight shift ... other than that It was just sit and play computer games and eat and chat/rest.

he must have been a late bloomer ... only made his achievements after completing NS .. coz he was CFC ... but he drove a S600 to camp ... but that was about 10 years ago liow ...

My last reservist was 20 years ago. Things were not always well planned as I and maybe 10 others in my specialist vocation get attached to air force base operational unit. Out of the 3 weeks, 1st week is all about revise safety procedures. 2nd week prepare for IPPT. 3rd week field work with regular soldiers. Regular soldiers scared we damage equipment and they have to answer. We get injured or killed by high voltage, they too have to answer. End up ,we told to watch or just help carry equipment.

Reservist becomes my best 3 weeks every year. Drive in at 8am, tea-break at 10am, lunch at noon, tea break at 3pm, go home at 5pm sharp. In between lectures or IPPT training. Next day repeat. With all the training, sure get IPPT $100.

I get my civilian pay for the duration, my boss cannot most times due to no coverage. The only time I get to read Straits Times front to back, including classifieds. Oh now I miss my reservist days.

I read our minister say how much money our saf save.... but my experience with my reservist unit feels the exact opposite.

It feels like they have to spend their Budget else it will be cut next year kind of feeling. I am curios is it like a widespread kind of thing or itâs just my unit? My unit is not conbat fit so maybe it is different from mainstream saf.

Reservist not much training.

More like doing defence exercise and refresher than getting any other new training.

However, I would say I can see there are better facilities towards the end of my cycle two years ago.

During my cycles, I see changes of M16 to SAR21 so this is the few new training. But handling is very similar to M16.

Old camo to new pixelated uniform

Old SBO and full packs to newer better design.

Latest new training probably the greater emphasis of CQC given the defence scenario move towards close quarters than jungle.

The difference between my 1st and last H-Key outfield exercise is

Age was 15yrs apart, 1st one can last 2D1N without sleeping a wink.

Last one, I was almost dozing off at 2am in one of the night exercise.

Best experience is the new range.

Objective done in 6 hours probably compare to 18hrs in old ranges.

However that meant no more NINJA Van.
