When PHV is mentioned, what are your immediate thoughts?

While PHV offers a temporary occupation to tie over between better regular jobs, the industry is totally spoilt by those drivers who do what Jamesc listed. This group I have no sympathy. Almost every trip I will encounter at least one joker from this group.

The government should increase the road tax for phv to 7 or 10 times more to reflect their annual mileage, and reduce the total number. Make the drivers get taxi licences too. Level the playing field, and reign in those bad, dangerous phv drivers.

What is the reason why Taxi driver dont change their jon to PHV? Edited by Lotr8445r

What car you drive?

Come, all MCFers come support your drive.

Pick us up at SPH,thank you.

I drive Axio hybrid. No big deal really, since the car can be changed anytime as I rented it.

I think generally, PHV drivers are better behaved when they have a rider inside the car, as he will be rated after the trip.

However, if he's going to a pickup, without a rider on-board, he may tend to be a "bad" driver.

Similar behaviour to a taxi looking for a street pickup.

But the difference is, taxi drivers are not rated by passengers.

Some do. They can use an app and become PHV driver instantly, while still driving a taxi.

But mostly, they don't. Bcuz PHV fare is low. Nobody wants to downgrade from a high paying job to a lower paying one.

Off-hand, I think standard flag-down taxi is at least $3.30 to $3.60 + km/time

Uber/Grab starts at $3.00 + km/time

By undercutting taxi fare, that's how they get customers.

So if you're a taxi driver, you're unlikely to go after lower fare.

Their car rent rate the same?

Different.

Taxi is from at least $80(last time used to be $100 and above)

Uber from $40+ for 6month contract.

(Attrage Vs Kia K5,or sth like that)

I am definitely no PHV lover but if we make PHV too difficult and many drop out then the whole thing will just die out. Might as well just ban it outright as some countries have done. The thing with "disruption" is that it is different from conventional. If govt impose all kinds of rules to create "level playing field" then how to have disruption?

Side note, i wish all those bike rental will be outlawed too.

No one would complain about PHV if they drove safely and didn't put people in danger or inconvenience them.

More jobs and more competition to taxis is a very good thing.

Unfortunately, PHV drivers will always get a bad reputation, bcuz of a few bad hats.

Same as taxi drivers.

But that's life.

And for those who lose their jobs at a late age (pray you're not one of them), PHV driving is a lifeline.
