Hello all. I tried doing a search on the above topic but to no avail

May I check with those folks here if they hv the answer?

I currently hv a car under my name. 50% NCD etc. My wife drive another but her car is totaled and her NCD is back to 0%.

If I am to get another car for her but register under my name, I understand stand that the new car will start from 0% NCD as my other car has the 50%.

Will the 2nd car under my name will have the NCD increased by 10% each year if no claims? Cos the insurance under my wife name now will be more than even my 0%.

Kindly advise. Thank u

If your wife is the regular driver, not reporting claims is an omission of major information.

In case of claims involving her, the claim will be rejected.

It is reported to insurance. So her NCD is now 0% as it is her fault.

As her car is totalled and sent to scrap yard, I will be getting another new car for her. Hence the question.

Logically, you are more experience and safe driver should get cheaper insurance.

However, your wife is the 2nd driver may still incur excess $$$

You have to get a few quotes to compare.

If I were you (2nd car fully paid), a 3rd party insurance will do

Turbocharged

The next car should start from scratch. If you add her as yr driver, they will evaluate and tell you the price more.

It will increase yearly as before. If you don’t add her as driver, if she get into accident, the excess will be much higher.

Maybe get a cheap car n if car totaled, just get back coe n parf?

Well, u don't understand what I said earlier.

U register this car under your name. If your wife is the major driver, better put her under named driver.

Total loss is a material information in proposal form.

In case of future claims, this claims could be rejected for omission of material information.

You can put the 'new' car under your name.

It will start at 0% NCD.

If she's the main driver, you have to put her as a named driver. Insurance company will ask about claim history in last 3 yr, and you have to declare the truth.

Let the NCD increase slowly every year till it reaches 50% again. The premium should still be cheaper than if the car is in her name, although it will not be as cheap as if both owner and named driver have no claim history.

Advisable to do this, unless her work requires her to have a car registered in her name.

One more thing: if for whatever reason the premium payable if the car is in your name (c.f. to your wife's name when her record is clean after 3 yr), is significantly higher, you can later transfer the car to her name (must pay LTA transfer fees), and also transfer your accumulated NCD over to her. But that's not something to worry about for now...

when you have a second car under your name, regardless of your first car's NCD, your second car start from zero. Every year  of good record will get you 10% discount for your second car. This is what happen to me and I argued with insurance company, my reason is if I have 2  cars,  chances of me driving each car is only 50%, I should enjoy even more discount on the second car, not paying more. The insurance guy told me,  because many people who have friends or relative got into accident to the extent of  no insurance company is willing to cover them, they have no choice but  to buy car and register it under someone else name to get around the limitation. End up i became a victim.  :TT_TT:

If your wife is driving and she sees a car with plate no 6800

especially if there is a very handsome man driving it

can she don't come too close and give this car a wide

berth? Thank you very much.  [thumbsup]

What you mentioned is what TS is facing.

You can always tell insurer that you are THE only NAMED driver of 2nd car.  In addition, there is no protection for unnamed driver.

With i have mentioned, only then you could argue that it has 50% chance.

By right can buy the new car insurance under Hubby name to save on the cheaper insurance fees.

I only know motorcycle insurances will specifically ask for the names and IC of second authorised rider.

Most car insurance(at least mine) do not ask for second named driver allowed to drive the car. The insurance clause stated that all authorised drivers that are permitted by the insured(aka hubby) to drive the new car will still be covered.

But  I am not sure how insurance will play the game when the new car kena accident by wife.

Insurance might play dirty and say the wife is actually the main user of the car for daily to work and pleasure, thus voiding the insurance.

So its very important during accident report to state that the wife is just going on a non-work non-routine event, while the car is actually mainly parked and use only by hubby.

haha, thanks ! wow didnt know that trick. But seriously the cars are for family use, i cannot say i am the only named driver, end up just pay up to accumulate ncd. Now 2nd car getting 30%.
