I'm still on SH cable and use TP plugs to send signal to study and bedroom.

Get 80mbps easily in all rooms so enough for me.

If I change to fibre I suppose I would have to change the TP plugs???? because a fibre router wouldn't send signal through two pre cast concrete walls would it????  or if it did the signal would be substantially degraded??

Any free fibre installations around now?

I think cable is more ex than fibre.

To change to cable, you need to have fibre junction box installed.

From the junction box, it needs to go into a modem before going into TP plugs.

The fibre terminates in a ONT.

Then outputs a cat 5/6 to be connected to a regular router, if you want them to split to wired  or wireless ethernet to multiple devices.

ONT is just like your cable modem. But it convert fibre signal to ethernet while cable modem converts RF signal to ethernet.

So anything after the ethernet is the same.

I assume your TP plugs is connected using the AC lines with ethernet interface. In that case, you can still use the same TP plugs.

I am with SH 1g fibre. You can call them to recontact.

As for bandwidth, I am staying in a 115sqm house and connection is very strong throughout the entire house. Router in the living room and I can still receive inside my toilet when I am having my private "meeting". I recommend using Asus router. Average speed I and getting easily 175 download and 350 upload.

What device you used?

Usually download and upload speed difference will not be that wide.

For PC with ethernet connection, it should be as close as your plan.
