Good chart. COE plus car taxes plus 20 percent of omv in customs/petrol duties add to about 9Bn... Almost as much as Personal Income Tax and GST! One of those 2 may have to go up to compensate lower COE collection.

Actually if COE prices drop but car price remains the same, the AD earns more profit and the buyer actually 'pays' more because with the lower COE value, the paper value decreases. Unless the buyer plans to keep the car for 10 years until COE expires, then COE rebate will always be 0.

 

Will there be a rush to buy the Elantra because it is not affected by VES? Then Elantra price increases?

There's nothing to push up pricing, more of downwards trend, unless sudden change of govt policy.

Nope, I'm looking at City or Jazz1.5rs. Actually Korea Car is gd also, but Elantra pick up quite slow as compare to my current Avante1.6MT. And the i30 (sgp bring in version) not so punchy despite got Turbo. Then lately my friend bought an Opel crossX with 20+k discount (but heard some ppl here say is gimmick), so if got gd conti cars i also dun mind (subject to pricing). 

 

Therefore, walking ard the durain plantation loh  . My current ride expire nxt yr so i not really in such hurry. Aiya, if gt manual cars of Korean/Jap make to choose from i be hapi. But those days were gone.
