The soldiers and the people can also decide themselves whether they want to fight on to death to protect the country or surrender themselves. What if the whole govt has perished or run away and escaped to another country? Just wait to die? If you are soldier, would you choose to escort the leader to another country as the first priority or would you go help and protect your family and friends to escape from the hands of the enemies first? I would choose the latter because the lives of family and friends values to me more than the leader. If the duty as a soldier cannot even protect his loved ones, what's the point of being a soldier? And if a leader can lead a war to the country, do you think this person is worth saving? If the people cannot even fight for themselves without a surviving govt, the country has already failed as a country of its own in the first place, since it is not adaptive to situations and changes. Without the govt, means dead, gone, bye bye. We can't even think of ourselves, make decisions for ourselves in times of such crisis, protect ourselves, then why are we still calling ourselves an independent country? Your duty as a soldier is to serve the country, and protect the people, especially your loved ones and ensure orderly even after the war. The govt is replaceable. The people won't die without a govt, but they will die if they can only fight when they need someone to remind them to fight. Yes, whining won't do a lot of things. Do what is needed and meaningful, the vote in the election counts. Just think. Certain thing can be argue, but certain thing simply cannot be argue one. A soldier is simply suppose to follow order. Period. No need to bring about what thinking here and there. In the end, really hosayliao. History has also taught us that wars are caused by bad leaders with poor decisions and their own agendas. Many wars are in fact caused by govts and govts are the root of all problems. You can be the soldier to protect what is supposed to be protected or continue being the pawn of others agenda. The duty of the soldier is to protect the country and its people. Simple as that. Country is country, govt is govt. Govt is not the country. The govt once said we can stay in jaybee old folks home... It's about humanity in terms on major conflict. Once the line is drawn, anyone that stand with SG should be protected, no matter colour, creed or belief. It a like in a working team, when we ran into an emergency, deal with the emergency 1st. Settle the problem 1st. When things are resolved then find the causes. I hate it when problems happen, people start to step in and find more faults, find the causes, but never resolve the problem. If it's my team, Will remind everyone find the solutions 1st.
