Switching tables

was at a hot pot eatery last night with my mom, sis and wife and son.

waited for about 20mins before we were finally seated in sort-of the middle of the eatery.

so the soup came and then it was heated up and then the food came as well. and when the soup started to boil, we started to drop the food into the soup.

we had dumped all the vege into the soup before the service crew came and asked us if we could switch to another table as a group of 9 with reservation just turned up and our table was the only one that can be merged with the next to accommodate the group

even though we were about half way through, without a second thought, I just told her ok as long as she can do the switch, which she proceeded to and we just moved ourselves to the new table.

any else here as accommodating as me ?

** when we were leaving, we were surprised with a free 2 feet hello kitty plush !

i'm fine too. small matter.

but of course there are plenty of self entitled ones out there who will yell, NO limpeh/limbo already sat down and you are disrupting my meal, i pay for service one you know.

similar side topic, was talking with the family about those who has special orders at hawker centres. who order bak chor mee, less chili, no vinegar, no spring onions etc etc. having listened to some orders in the past, if i was the stall owner i probably would have said, don't eat la. hahaha

i guess the stall which does not cater to all these special order will be much more efficient.?

Sure some will boycott, but as long as priced reasonably and good enough, many Singaporeans will still queue and eat.

i guess what i'm saying is the bread and butter hawker centres shouldn't pander too much to the ngeow chees. the ngeow chees can jolly well pay for it at restaurants.

relating to what we experienced last night, my wife told me one of her encounters back in her hometown.

she was working in an eatery there and a family of 4 came for dinner.

the family had just sat down and placed their orders when another staff approached them to switch tables.

although the table was still empty, the father of the family was pissed and was kpkb-ing throughout his dinner after switching to another table ... perhaps he did not get the hello kitty ?? :XD:

small thing lor ... why make yourself unhappy over such trivial issue ? even if already more than halfway, wouldn't it be nice to switch to a new cleaner table ? :a-good:

If food not served. I'm ok to move if needed. But actually if i started cooking liao, i will probably say no.

But depends on attitude.

The father behavior is normal in China especially in non-tier 1 cities/village.

Depends on the new table. If beside toilet/bin, I will have to decline.

yeah i won't switch to an inferior location like beside the entrance of the kitchen area also.

actually it's just a personality issue.

Some people cannot let things go.

I try to empathize with others and try to be as considerate as possible, even to a fault.

I pay it forward, hoping that one day it will come back to me when I need it also.

the crew must have been desperate to ask a seated diner to switch tables ... else face the wrath of the booked diner ... so since not much hassle - even though we dipped our soup already - just help the poor crew out.

also, the booked diner must be also anxiously waiting for their seats ... so by switching to another table, can help ease the queue and let more ppl eat at the same time, rather then let them wait.

just like parking lots ... I will also hurry my family to get into the car faster a bit so to vacate the lot for the next car  already queuing up.

its just a small act on my part, but if everyone could do it, might help to lessen stress everywhere.

Caught in such situations a few times, be it Steamboat or BBQ buffet.

I'm fine with it as long as they helped to move the food over.
