Lexus Gs450h hybrid battery problem?!

This is exactly the reason what I was warming those who bought PI hybrids... . Outside of the AD, they don't have the equipment and skillset to repair a complicated hybrid system. Furthermore as illustrated by the TS, the hybrid battery system is so specialised that only BM can bring it in from Japan. BM can charge whatever they want for the battery and the labour.

Sometimes if lucky, it might be the hybrid battery running too hot. For the Prius, the hybrid battery is cooled by a fan using the air in the car cabin. There is a filter there and it might be full of dust. Cleaning that filter, would restore cooling to the hybrid battery and might restore normal use. Maybe need to go to workshop to reset code.

From this page https://www.manualslib.com/manual/825467/Lexus-Gs450h.html?page=30#manual , it looks like the cooling fan arrangement is similar to the Prius. For the Prius, the boot compartment covers need to be removed to access the fan for cleaning,

The GS450h hybrid battery is a beast (63kg!), there are 40 battery modules inside compared to the Prius's 28 modules.

There's this guy on youtube who does his own refurbishment of teslas. He salvages parts off damaged teslas and is not supported by the company  [laugh] God mode tinker  [:p]

yeah that's why when my friends say hybrid dam good. I warn them about this.

Just recently sent a Axio hybrid for servicing.

They said they change the hybrid filter, although I didn't know what it is.

Now, I think it's probably the same air filter you mentioned.

Unless the workshop is experience with servicing hybrids, that filter may just be overlooked for years.

The Axio air intake for the cooling of the hybrid battery is at the back seat, almost like the Prius. So the process to access to clean should be similar (remove boot compartment covers to access).

Hi peeps,

Recently got my 8 year Lexus GS450h.

Everything perfect about the car except when few days ago on the dashboard popped up “CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM”

I called borneo to check, need to order the battery will take 6-7 weeks.

Car drives fine but with slightly higher consumption.

Anyine willing to share some workshops or experiences regarding this issue?

Please help :(

1. May not be a battery problem.  Go do a complete and proper diagnostic.

2. If you need to replace your hybrid battery, you can do it in 2 days instead of the 6-7 weeks that BM claims.

3. Like what T0y0ta says, you may want to weigh the benefit of replacing the battery against the lifespan of the car.  You may want to consider refurbished ones if they are available.

I did check it is a battery... performance is ... crap without the battery... no more instant torque like before... never drive 450h before most people wont know. :(

That's why I avoided hybrid for my current car. :D

Do not be mistaken, hybrid with alittle performance tuned in like GS450h/BMW 5 hybrids are fun to drive with oodles of power on demand in a snap. I am just done with the subconscious anxiety when my hybrid went out of warranty. Everyday is keeping finger cross day. :D

I give it another 10 yrs to mature further before I even consider jumping back in.

All battery has lifespan. It depends on software to prolong its life.

Perhaps its different in Thailand. I was the firsts who bought the very first Camry Hybrid in Thailand. At that time the car comes with only 1 standard warranty for the car.

About 1 year and 9 months after I bought the car I received a letter from Toyota, its actually a certificate of warranty for the hybrid battery for 10 years and a accompanying letter telling me that this new certificate warranty surpass the old warranty of the car. However I already sold the car.

Toyota hybrid is a proven product its been around for more than 20 years

Singapore consumer is always on the losing end.

Unlike bigger market.

Mine was power control module (chips and electronics) problem leading to improper recharging that deteriorated the hybrid battery. So I have to have the battery and power control modules changed.

Of course 10 yr hybrid battery warranty sounds nice and good. But many don't realize that hybrid is a system. As long as any part of the system fail, you are screwed. And I hope the AD covers the associated hybrid system failure instead of just the battery.

one of the workshops in sin ming.

by the way just an update, the "check hybrid system" suddenly went off and there is no more warning light whatsoever.

i tried restarting the car 3 times but same result. performance wise.... not much difference or bit better ( maybe its a mental thing ).....

tomorrow planning walk in borneo see what they can do....

Seriously I am sceptical on this BM claim. I really doubt it.

I am more than happy to be proven wrong.

no need to be sceptical about BM 10 years warranty on hybrid batteries as warranty are provided by Toyota globally for all Lexus globally! so batteries will change regardless how many time as long as within 10 years of 1st purchase from BM

The 10yrs warranty works such that. 1st 5 yrs unlimited change. 5-10yrs can only change once.

Just the battery or the whole system?
