I always give a very good testimonial when people call me.

I always think people need a job to feed their family.

A few months later if they call up to complain why the staff so bad.

I pretend to be surprised and say wah I cannot believed he has changed so much.

Maybe their style of management?

:D

With PDPA, I doubt many would want to try and kepo. General feedback on factual things like length of employment and confirmation of duties maybe.

Reference checks are just what it means, do you really want to beileve what they say? A high performance guy may not perform you another environment and the other way around. There are many factors and it is still about if you got the right tool ofr that job.

Just need to ask:

Would you consider hiring this employee again? It will still be a factual ans.

Background check for a job?

When you think about it surely a back ground check for a potential wife or husband is more important right?

After all marriage is for life right.

So do anyone do a background check before getting married?

Have to ask previous bf/gf what potential wife/husband was like?

:D

Ref check is normal. Maybe there are even some forms which the new company will compel the potential employee to sign stating that the old coy can disclose the information which they need.

doesn’t matter what the potential employee signed with new company

if not properly specified in the company policy, i don’t think any hr personnel would reveal any company confidential information to help an external party without any benefit to his or her own career advancement or even jeopardise his/her career

pure stupidity

Background checks supposed to be done for all levels of employment but usually not done for reasons that companies are not obliged to help each other. Even background check with previous educational institutions are not done properly, so you can just imagine. That's why all sorts of fake degree holders etc. are recruited, more so when the qualification is from some foreign country.

Anyway nowadays it is possible to glean all sorts of unvarnished info from social media, especially with strawberries recruitment. No need to depend on background check.

For me, interacting with the person face to face to 'know' him is very important. For non specialist works, the person attitude is very crucial.

If i have the full understanding of the subject matters he is required to perform, his ability to share his views on the subject matters will be the deciding factor.

Reference checks not always give you the correct answer because the person you check may not have direct interactions with this person, especially if he is from HR. Even if he is his direct supervisor, how would you know he is giving you a fair and professional feedback?

Yes I would consider hiring every ex employee again.

Considering is free. Doesn't mean they will be hired again.

Fake MBA from internet university also still hire them.

It's very important to come from the right village.

Unless you have a very rigorous methodology to sniff out the competency level and thought process of a candidate during the interview process, you can be easily smoked by an articulate interviewee who can put a spin on everything.

If candidate is in the market long enough, discreet market check provides an extra window to verify and affirm your findings.

It is part of so called background check, which is not uncommon. However the company can not really asked openly, but more of seeking confirmation. In the scenario you quoted,

1) Can I confirm that ABC is with your company from DDMMYY to DDMMYY, holding the position of XYZ (job title), and drawing a package of $$$/mth or $$$p.a.?

2) May I know if ABC has any performance issue or being dismissed / terminated by your coy? Did he receive XXX, YYY award(s) while with your coy?

So both HR has to be very careful with the questions and responses I would say.

Normally EVERY bank need to check. Its goes as far as checking if u have opened a company with Arca check. The usual practice is Dun and brad street to check your credit rating as well as Worldcheck to make sure you dont have fake credential.

Background check is big business

For Marina sands it goes thru Casino regulatory and hence not many IT staff in casino, or rather the IT staff is in non casino dept.

For all govt its the G50 form.

So unless you have a deep dark secret, avoid all this places lol

Your source on discreet checks are something you need to filter carefully. A simple example, I have maids for the past 20 odd years and they were 'source' by picking from 'rejected maids' done at agencies. If I have spoken to these maid's former employers, their reference will be bad. However, most times, the key reasons is the 'wrong fit'.

In some organisation, their HR conducts pre-selection and interviews before the hiring department get to interview. Frankly, my experience with this method has been poor.
