My car just error messaged that the KNOCK SENSOR and IDLE AIR CONTROL is not working..

Does anyone know how does the knock sensor affect the car?

I've searched online, and I think it will not affect the car at all if the engine is not knocking..

What about IAC? It is just affecting the idle speed when engine is cold right?

Anyway, any info will be good.

I will post pictures when I take some. Its in pretty "fair" shape now. Someone hit my driver side door and I brought it to the dealership, thinking that they should do a better job... But after I got it back, they DIDN'T blend the paint on the rear quarter panel... Piece of crap.. Now, the door panel is slightly off colored from the rest of the car...

Recently waxed it with Lyxol cleaner wax (blue)... I am very impressed.

Also say hi to all members! I'm a personal friend of Guyver, used to study in Singapore, currently working in Los Angeles.

Will be going to a VW car show sometiem next week, my friend is showing off his heavily mod 1985 VW GTI ..

The thing about owning a car in USA is that the car is cheap, but maintenance, detailing, etc are really expensive. I've changed my clutch and hydraulics rear seals for 900 USD last year. Thinking of bringing the car to be detailed professionally, and it costs about 45 USD per hour, a 6-8 hour job.

After they finished the job for u.... they should need u to sign a acceptance kind of acknowledgement.... if they didn't do it well for u.... u could ask them to redo it again... right?

Sorry, this is an update.

I've just checked some website about the explanation of the error codes , the codes are

EGR function - EGR valve does not operate

Detonation Sensor circuit - The detonation sensor circuit is open or shorted.

if ecu detects knock sensor is faulty, it will stick to stock ignition timing and will not try to advance itself. Worst case is a intermitten faulty knock sensor which will stall ur vehicle.

As for IAC error, U might want to check or renew the EGR valve? Perhaps u might wan to take out to blast it clean with some carb cleaner? U install BOV?

Hi Zrun! Welcome to MCF! [sunny]

U could try cleaning the EGR (probably choked with carbon) but if too severely contaminated you'll probably have to change it.

Since the knock sensor is sending out error signals means it's reaching end of life, standby to change to a new one.

U must be having lotsa fun in the US car scene! [thumbsup]

Thanks for the welcome... I should be having fun, but I haven't got a personal garage where I can fix my own car, and its too expensive to let others do it.. and the d**n 300ZX is so difficult to reach any parts, you either have to remove lots of stuffs or jack the car up to reach a part.

I've changed spark plugs, distributor cap, fuel filter on my old honda accord before, but on the 300Z, I can't do any of them (except fuel filter)! I let the dealership do it for 350 USD... Its alot of $$. They also changed the differential oil, transmission oil, brake fluid, coolant and oil change.
