Hyundai Matrix :Reliability ??

We have been blessed with new and younger cars in last decade because of declining COE premium. Cars with 200-300k km mileage were pretty common in the past. My friend had a 84 Honda Accord with 330k on 5th year. Didn't really change anything besides routine maintenance. A more recent example is another friend's 2004 Stream 260k km with only oil changes and a battery change in 6 years. Never broken down before.

Thats lucky. My colleage 2008 stream just change his air-con compressor at 135k mileage. [:/]

It has been 7 years. I do not have problem with my matrix so far (180000km)

However, I do have it service regularly. I guess servicing is important.

I know nothing about car maintenance so I listen to what the mechanics tells me and change what is required.

However, the FC is high. It is usually 10km/l.

If anyone can share ways to reduce the FC, it would be great.

My dad's 6 year old matrix has also been problem free so far. Going to hit 150,000 km soon. Didn't expect this car to be reliable. Last time always think korean cars are bad till we bought the matrix

Matrix FC is high and yet you can still tahan for 7 years? :D Even though the car might have not much problem, but if the FC is high maybe i would find an excuse and change to a lower FC car.

Agree, i changed to 2nd hand wish, 200 cc more, better pickup, more space, heavier body, larger rims, and guess what, better FC! How is that remotely possible? I can't figure that.

Mythical technology of VVTi of a Toyota Wish over a Matrix that doesnt even have the CVVT.

I do not think FC is an issue.

Especially in Singapore context

For the price diff between a good fc car and this car. The saving itself can already buy a lot of fuel.

Second. This is a heavier car with more space comfort and convenient.

Be proud of yr matrix. It is a goodcar. A value for money one.

Exactly. Share your logic.

Upfront savings of a matrix at that time vs a so-call good fuel economy car could easily be between $5-10k (excl interest).

Additional fuel exp per month is probably $50-$100 depending on usage.

Just see how much of that upfront savings can last you... more so if you are a low/average mileage user....

Maybe due to thin metal or better engine technology? [:/]

There is no way to get better than 14, the gear ratio and engine is the biggest culprit! Light foot, constant speed, I have tried all, useless...

Its heavier than my old Matrix.........

It has better aerodynamic but narrower body.

It has more efficient engine n gear box.

But it also has higher price.

No?

My ex CRV get about 10, how about that?

I think if matrix can get 10' it is very good already when it has so many other good attribute..

1.6 engine lugging a big useful, convenient, comfortable and practical body.

Hi,

Due to budget constrain, high COE etc.

Thinking to get a 05/06 matrix for family!

Any advise 1.6 or 1.8... Or OPC....

May share your view on fuel consumption and any spare part issue!!

Many thanks

If you getting Auto then better look for Matrix 1.8 because the Matrix body is heavy, 1.8 is better. If you want to stick with 1.6 the look for manual.

I have a 06 1.6L Matrix, manual and getting 11.4km per liter for FC

11.4 is quite normal for martix
