Hi folks, what's the update from today's context?

On average, if spending on car remains to be $15k per year, it is a "sound" spending to me. Consider the hassle (or madness) of squeezing the MRT crowd during peak hours everyday (and the uncertainties), hike in taxi fares and unpredictable bus schedules, the only other transport mode is private car.

bro.. going forward towards a 100k coe, how is it possible to have only 15k spending per year?

that piece of paper alone is already 10k..

Guys sorry if I'm a little out of subject here but this is my first post and I cannot start my own subject. This thread looked pretty active so...

I plan to move to Singapore next month and I will need a car for my job.

I get a general understanding of the Singapore market and its specificities but I would really appreciate if you could help me with the following:

1- let's I'm going to buy a used car for 40,000sgd, with 3-4 years remaining on the COE. How much will be the value of this car when the COE expires ? (I'm looking for instance at a 1.6L VW Golf or an MPV like a Toyota Wish) My understanding is COE = 0, but then the car itself, how much can I get for it ?

2- Is it possible to get a loan for a car that is longer (repayment over 5 years) than the remaining COE validity period ?

3- All in all, I plan a budget of 1,000 to 1,200 per month (free parking at home and at work, work outside CBD, home around Novena), what are my options (I expect about 15,000km per year, I have wife + 2 kids) ?

Many thanks ahead for your insights !

Cheers

Vincent

i see many calculate TCO based on monthly loan repayment + road tax + insurance + erp + parking + servicing + other monthly operating cost. what about your downpayment? those who shows $500-$600 loan repayment every month is low due to high downpayment right? TCO for a car in Spore where got so low ! those who take 100% loan then calculation is more choon but not to forget the 'penalty' when sell car < 10 years [laugh]

Supersonic

Usually if your monthly instalement is $500-$600, either your car price is cheap or you downpayment a lot. Usually your car loan must be below $50K then your monthly instalement would be around $500-$600.

yes, that's why using depreciation is a more accurate gauge.

include the interests incurred too, if u took loan...
