Hi all,

Need some advice from gurus in this forum...

Some pp say change Auto Transmission Fluid every 10km...

Some say change only when necessary...too often no good...

StarsAuto says only need to change at 40km...

The sales guy who sold me Optra told me to change every 10km...

Which is best now for comtemporary auto transmission? Pls advise...

Thanks!!

My ATF is only changed every 40,000 km and I've never had any issues with my auto transmissions in the cars I've driven.

StarsAuto is probably right in this case unless you have a different engine or have done some mods that will shorten the effectiveness span of the ATF.

Hi

Changing the ATF oil at very frequently will not damage the Auto

Tranny unless you have loads of cash to spare.

Mind you that every ATF oil change costs min S$80 ( Synthetic )

Therefore, the recommend oil change for auto transmission is

tagged at 40k interval. But some people are just too mindful

and even went way after 80k on the odo.

Optra's Auto Tranny is a 4-speed Fuzzy logic tranny so therefore

there are still planetary gear set inside the tranny unlike

CVT whereby there are only flexible cam and expandable belts.

If you delay the ATF oil change interval, you will notice :

- Delays in accerleration

- Delay in upshifts, downshifts

- trembling,Vibration when in 'D' mode with brakes engaged.

- High Fuel consumption.

- Noisy gear changes.

If the problem is not rectified, you will encounter :

- Difficultly in shifting into reverse.

- Engine's die off when 'D' is engaged with brakes on.

- Unable to shift from 'P' to 'D'

Wow! Thanks for the comprehensive explanation.

$80 bucks!! SA servicing told me if I wanna change, it will be 24 bucks. I guess it is normal fluid...

Thanks...
