Getting a Focus soon, so my interest in this forum shifted over to this section. wave.gif

However, I noticed that Ford is all over the place in the American Talk and Conti Talk, hence this thread.

Ford is an american brand.

Precisely.

If it is called a conti car because it is from Europe, then I think the MCF should have a "Thailand Talk", and it will be extremely crowded! [laugh]

I feel that even though Ford is American brand n roots, not all Fords are American. Ford in the seventies, eighties till early nineties are seen as Japanese and European rather than Americans

Let me explain:

Will u consider the following Fords as American cars?

Ford Festiva (1st and 2nd gen)

Ford Laser (from 70s till now)

Ford Telstar

I would say Ford is consider a Global car rather than American unless the car is fully build n design in USA. The approach is slightly different from GM but the result is the same. GM bought many car makers or own some stakes in it but still let them sell under their own brand name like Saab, Subaru, Suzuki, Cadillac etc with the exception of Daewoo. While Ford also work in the same way but u can find many Fords are copies of many cars especially Mazda.

Remember the Festiva? I dun think u will like to call it an American as American will not build such small cars. 1st gen. Festiva is actually an Kia Pride, Kia was using Mazda technology in the past and the "Pride" was based on the old Mazda "121". The 2nd gen. Festiva was based on Kia Avella, which was the early 90s Mazda 121 (remember the Funtop?). The Festiva is actually build in Korean Kia factory and rebadge as a "Ford". I think i dun have to explain the "Laser" and the "Telstar" which are based on "323" and "626".

The Focus is actually to replace the "Escort" which meant to be a "World Car" as car is build in Argentina, Germany, Japan etc.... but I would say "Focus" to be German rather than American.

I felt that the identity of car today is in a mess... Will u call the "Vios", "Altis" and "City" a Japanese? These cars are strictly "Thai cars" as they are not sold Internationally. These cars are design n build especially for certain regions only. As for "Optra" and "Aveo", i must say that they are definately Korean as the concept, design and roots are Koreans. My dad own an "Optra" and me drive a "Daewoo"... so i am definately not against these cars.....

Agreed. [nod]

HOWEVER, I did not start this discussion about the car. I was refering more to the category of this forum - I still feel postings about Ford, being an American brand, should belong in the "American Talk" forum.

Likewise, I am sure just about everyone else agrees that a Toyota car is a Japanese car, irregardless which country the car is designed/manufactured in. Hence, most Toyota postings are found in the "Jap Talk".

A Hyundai car is a Korean car, irregardless which country the car is designed/manufactured in. Hence, most Hyundai postings are found in the "Korean Talk".

So how come postings about Ford cars, while I agree that it is considered a global car (like most cars nowadays), are found in the "Conti Talk"? [dizzy] Maybe the moderators of MCF confused most of us by putting the Ford logo there...

Just my observations.

Cheers!

I thought abt that too that moderator put "Ford" in Conti talk... maybe they think that more than 50% of Ford sold here are Europeans rather than Amercian
