A French company, Vintech, has unveiled its latest creation at the recent Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance; a retro looking two-seater sports car known as the P550 Tribute. It was designed as a tribute to Porsche’s iconic sports car, the Porsche 550.
Some would know that the Porsche 550 Spyder was the car that James Dean crashed and died in and on top of the Spyder variant, Porsche built a limited number of coupe version of the 550; mainly for racing purposes.
The P550 Tribute does not resemble much of the 550 Spyder but its design compares much to the rarer 550 coupe variant. The shape and the lines of the car represent much of Porsche’s version. The clear difference is that the P550 is fitted with gullwing-styled doors.
The retro styling is infused into the interior as well. Three large gauges are mounted on the dashboard, just behind the wooden steering wheel. The rest of the dashboard is rather bare except for some switches and a grab handle which is situated near the passenger side.
The car has a custom made chassis, a carbon fibre body and it weighs around 550kg. It is fitted with a 3.0-litre flat four engine that is said to produce around 270bhp and power is delivered to the rear wheels via a five speed manual transmission. Vintech did not produce any performance figures but with the car weighing at only 550kg and having 270 horses, it is safe to say that the 0-100km/h timing is around the 5 second range.
Vintech did not reveal whether the car will go into production and also its price tag.
