Earlier this year, Peugeot teased us with a concept car that was based on the Peugeot 208 hatchback and it was called the 208 XY. The car was targeted towards the “urbanites” segment. And now Peugeot has revealed more details about the 208 XY and it will be the 208 hatchback’s top of the range version.

The Peugeot 208 XY is scheduled to debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month and the car is seen as an attempt by the French automaker to move its entire range up a notch on the market in order to compete against semi-premium offerings from competitors such as Volkswagen.

The Peugeot 208 XY, available only as a three door hatchback, will be kitted with a toned down version of the 208 GTi’s bodykit. It will feature a model-specific fender flares that accommodate a wider track, side skirts and a brushed aluminium piece of trim mounted at the bottom of the rear bumper.

Future buyers will get to choose six different types of exterior colour, including an exclusive metallic shade of purple dubbed Purple Night. On the inside, the bucket seats are upholstered with a combination of cloth and Alcantara. Leather upholstery is available as an option.

The equipment level for the 208 XY is simply marvellous. The car comes standard with Park Assist, a system that electronically parks the car without any input from the driver, heated seats and LED daytime running lights. A seven inch touch screen for the car’s infotainment system adorns the centre console. Future buyers can also opt for a panoramic glass sunroof and dual zone climate control.

Peugeot offers the 208 XY in six different four cylinder engine types that ranges from a 92bhp 1.6-litre e-HDi turbo diesel to a 1.6-litre THP petrol burning unit that makes 155bhp. Peugeot also offer buyers, who wishes to customise their 208 XY to reflect their individual taste, a whole range of interior and exterior add-ons such as roof stickers and key fobs.

After its official debut in Paris later this month, the car will be available in Europe by the first half of next year.
