Lexus invited the press to test its all-new 2014 Lexus IS sedan at the Fuji Motor Speedway prior to the car’s launch at the Detroit Motor Show comes January 2014. US television host, Jay Leno, was one of the lucky few who had the chance to get behind the wheel of Lexus’ new 3-Series basher.

Lexus IS Chief Engineer, Fu Yama, is featured in the video as well but he just gives a blank look to Jay whenever a question was posted to him, which is rather hilarious. Well, I guess the detail of the new compact sedan is supposed to be "Top Secret".

Although the car's exterior is camouflaged, we can see the general profile of the vehicle quite clearly. According to Jay, the third generation IS appears to have a longer wheelbase and it feels very Germanic in its handling. In addition, the engine sounds like a V8 although it is only a V6.

The new IS will be offered with two engine options at launch, namely the 2.5-litre V6 and the 3.5-litre V6. Both are linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission, an upgrade from the current 6-speeder. It looks like Lexus has yet to jump onto the downsizing bandwagon.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
