The A 45 AMG is powered by a highly-tuned 2.0-litre turbocharged, direct-injected engine that is good for 350bhp and 450Nm of torque. Its main rivals, the BMW 135i and Audi RS3, produce 320bhp/450Nm and 340bhp/450Nm respectively.

Power is transferred to all four wheels via an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission. It should complete the century sprint in 4.6 seconds en route to an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.
