The first generation Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan was launched in 2008 and the facelift version was presented at the 2012 Busan Motor Show. Hence, it is timely that General Motors begins the development of the second generation model.

For the first time, the Cruze’s successor has been spied when it underwent testing in Europe. The heavily camouflaged prototype suggests that the next Cruze will have a sharper looking front fascia borrowed from the Sonic sedan. The sloppy roof line with a steeply-raked windscreen creates a more aerodynamic profile than the existing model.

The new Cruze will be built upon the new D2XX platform, a new architecture that will be shared with other mainstream vehicles from GM's lineup including the successors to the Chevrolet Volt and Opel Astra. The new compact sedan is likely to be powered by the new range of SIDI Ecotec and CDTI Ecotec diesel engines.

The next-generation Cruze is likely to arrive in the market in fall of 2014 as a 2015 model.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
