Though not officially recognised by Guinness World Records, the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse - a targa top Grand Sport fitted with a 1,200bhp engine of a Super Sport - is currently the fastest hairdryer (roadster) in the world.
The record was set at Volkswagen Group's proving grounds in Ehra-Lessien and was verified by TUV, a renowned independent German organisation for Technical Inspection and Certification, officially confirmed that a top speed of 408.84 km/h was recorded.
Harry Metcalfe of U.K. automotive publication EVO was at the track when the feat was accompolished by a 29-year old Chinese entrepreneur and racing driver, Anthony Liu. The highlight of the video is around the 3:16 mark when the car zooms down the main straight at 407km/h.
Besides F1 races held under the lights here, I have occasionally witnessed raging bulls and prancing horses zooming past and I can only imagine what 400+ km/h could feel or sound like.
Speaking of the Veyron, here is the video where James May of Top Gear achieved 417km/h in a Veyron Super Sport at the same track.
