The news was revealed by the Malaysian High Commissioner via Singapore Datuk Ilango Karuppannan after he was told that our Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan that Singapore had always viewed the the RM20 Road Charge (RC) at the Johor border as being aimed at vehicles entering Malaysia from Singapore.
Vehicles coming through the Thailand border are currently exempted from the RM20 RC.
That said, Singapore has been told by the Malaysian Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai that Malaysia is looking at implementing the Road Charge at the Thailand border by mid-2017.
Ilango was quoted in the newspaper that "Singapore sees the Road Charge as a type of toll collection and we will match it whenever Malaysia increases the toll charges at the Causeway or Second Link."
Liow also welcomed Singapore’s decision to lift its RRC once Malaysia implements the RC at its other entry points bordering Thailand, and stressed that the move was not meant to discriminate Singaporeans.
