8 Cars That Gained Popularity Because Of Stan Lee And The Marvel Cinematic Universe
The revolutionary comic book writer, Stan Lee, passed away days ago at 95 years of age and comic book lovers around the world have been in mourning ever since.
The creator of iconic superheroes like Spider-Man, Iron Man, The X Men, The Avengers and Fantastic Four was a pop culture legend. Without him, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) would not have even existed as well as the following bunch of beautiful car product placements in all their films.
Audi R8
Iron Man (2008)
Considered the film that kick started the whole MCU and the whole concept of movies interlinking to one another, Tony Stark aka Iron Man is infamous for his love of women and expensive cars. The Audi R8 is no exception to this rule. The R8 is Tony Stark’s main car in the film and he used it throughout.
Acura RDX
Thor (2011)
The Acura RDX was the official vehicle for S.H.I.E.L.D Agents in Thor. In the comics, S.H.I.E.L.D Agents usually appear from cool spaceships and they have a base in the sky! Furthermore, the Acura logo is shaped like a shield! How apt.
Chevrolet Corvette
Captain America: The Winter Solider (2014)
In the Winter Soldier, the Corvette is linked more to Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson. The Corvette was given prominence from the get-go and given a large chunk of screen time during the introductory act of the film. The American muscle car definitely suits her bad-ass character.
Audi TTS
Avengers: Age Of Ultron (2015)
Avengers: AOU was probably the most highly anticipated film of its time. It was the first MCU film that would band together all the big names from blockbuster hits to fight one common enemy – Ultron. The Audi TTS made its debut in Avengers: AOU as a redesigned coupe and that definitely got people’s attention.
Lamborghini Huracan Coupe
Doctor Strange (2016)
Doctor Strange was probably one of the best Marvel movies that hit box offices. The way it was shot, the camera angles and the general flow of the story was stellar. In association with the awesomeness of the film, Lamborghini brings in the visually stunning Huracan Coupe, driven by the arrogant Doctor Stephen Strange. [spoiler ALERT] My heart broke into a million pieces when he crashed the Huracan though. But it was a pivotal scene and had to happen.
Lexus LC500
Black Panther (2018)
Black Panther featured a predominantly all black cast and its release shook the world. Earning a cool $667 million in ticket sales, Marvel is constantly improving and not stagnating with their success over the years. The Lexus LC500 was featured in the car chase scene in Busan, South Korea and what a thrilling scene it was. At the time of filming, the LC500 was not even out yet! Apparently, Lexus had to give Marvel 6 of those expensive LC500 prototypes!
2018 Infiniti QX50
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
The QX50 was only featured in a cameo at the end credit scene where [spoiler Alert] Nick Fury and Agent Maria Hill slowly dissipated into ashes after activating Captain Marvel. It’s an interesting product placement and made this list because of their similarities in their names. Coincidence? I think not.
Hyundai Veloster
Antman & The Wasp (2018)
I personally feel Antman & The Wasp did not receive that much praise due to the timing of its release being too close to Avengers: Infinity War. It was still a great movie though, they made references to Civil War and there’s even a link to Infinity War! The 2nd Generation Veloster in this film is painted purple with yellow and orange flames. It felt a little tacky but to be fair it was featured in a pretty cool car chase scene. You’ll also get to see a mini hot wheels version of it (duh, it’s Antman!)
Thank you, Stan Lee, for all the years of entertainment, be it comics or movies. You made the world a better place by transforming magical worlds and characters from your mind into reality. You and your endearing cameos will be dearly missed. #excelsior
