Find F1 boring? What you need is BTCC

When you think motorsports, most Singaporeans, depending on their age group and how cool they are, will almost everytime mention Formula 1. Then you get go-karting.   Unlike most of Europe and even Asia, the local motorsports scene is still in it's infancy, but has been growing with the acceptance and popularity of the annual drift events, go-karting championships and the impromptu races on the expressway with a young punk Civic driver.   All aside though, we're pretty much well behind most

Carlsson tuning package for new MB SLK

German tuner, Carlsson, has come up with a new tuning program for the latest Mercedes Benz SLK. For aerodynamics and styling purpose, Carlsson designed a new front lip spoiler and grille inserts made from electropolished stainless steel. At the rear there's a diffuser insert and rear spoiler which increase contact pressure at the rear axle. Carlsson also lowered the suspension on the SLK by up to 30 mm and added new wheels with rims between 18 to 20 inches in size.   Under the hood of this 3rd

Well, in this video you are about to see, this guy definitely knows how it feels. Perodua launches the new Myvi - It looks better than the Toyota Passo

[extract] Meanwhile, across the Causeway, Perodua launches the new Perodua Myvi for the Malaysian public to savour. Being a typical Toyota/Daihatsu based company, the new for 2011 Perodua Myvi maintains the basic look and shape of its predecessor. It is still based on the Toyota Passo/Daihatsu Sirion/Daihatsu Boon models but what I

Who cares about the driver when there's money to be made?

It is official. Market Street Car Park will be no more. In its place? Yet another office building in the heart of Raffles Place. The CBD parking crunch just got worse.   With rental values of office space back on the upward trend again, it is no surprise that the owner of the Market Street Car Park has decided that the land it sits on would be better utilized as a proper commercial/office property rather than serving the needs of hundreds of drivers who work in Raffles Place.   Well, it is

Get ready for a BMW 4 Series

Yes. It is already in the works and the people from AutoExpress have rendered these images as to how the 4 series will look like in 2014 when it is to be released. Its meant to 'complement' the 3 series range and to battle for supremacy with the Audi A5 Sportback.     Originally thought to be a 3 series variant called the GT (as with the 5 series GT), BMW have decided to go with the 4 series to pitch the new car between the 3 and 5, obviously. But they have used the 5 Series GT as a ba

Introducing the Mini Coupe

I love MINI's. When I was still an automotive journalist here, I distinctly remembering two things about the brand and the cars they produced.   1. MINI Cooper S's were probably the most natural handling car I've ever driven without extensive modifications to stiffen up the suspension and braces all over the car to get the body taut. That meant that go-kart handling and a short base that keeps the car planted and neutral most times when you're passionately driving through tight corners or doin

All new BMW M5 makes internet debut

These are the first official pictures of the all-new BMW M5, which is based on the latest generation of the 5-Series, the F10. The huge air intakes in the front bumper, side vents in the front wings bearing the M logo, 20 inch wheels with 265/35 front and 295/30 rear ZR-rated tires, and twin tailpipes at either end of the rear diffuser separate the top-of-the-range 5 series from its lesser brethrens.   The 2012 M5

Post Japan GT Race Epic Fail - Lamborghini totaled after post race duel

[extract] With great power lies great responsibility. This phrase made popular by the SpiderMan movie series makes perfect sense when coming up with a moral for this article. You see, every time there is one of those international race events held at the Sepang F1 Circuit over in Malaysia there are bound to be many pseudo-race drivers acting out their dreams by becoming the Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel or Nikki Lauda on the highways that lead away from the circuit.   After th

ZF reveals 9HP - 9 Speed automatic transmission

[extract] About 4 years ago in May 2007, ZF unveiled their 8 speed automatic transmission which found its place under the bonnets of the BMW 760LI saloon, Rolls-Royce Ghost and many others. In the quest for efficiency, car manufacturers have increased the number of gear selection to their products and even a base model such as the latest BMW 1 series is benefiting from an 8 speed transmission. Recognizing such a need, ZF launched the world

Motoring Magazine - The end of an era

By now, you would have heard that Motoring magazine has succumbed to the pressures of the market, and left our automotive scene for good.   While technically, we editorials are rivals in the market, allow me to put aside my professional front for a while, and talk about my personal dismay at the demise of a title that was held in high regard in Singapore's automotive circle.   Motoring is (or was) Singapore's oldest automotive magazine, and its influence on the local automotive industry was

A little bit on road courtesy...

[extract] Over the years, the number of individuals on our roads has continued to grow... like the pace of our daily lives. At one time or another, we have all been in a hurry when driving or become lost in our thoughts, distracted, worried or preoccupied, despite the fact that driving requires our full attention and concentration!   As a result, there are times when we may perform manoeuvres that are disrespectful to other road users, or even dangerous, or perhaps engage in a behaviour th

Ryan Dunn of

Ryan Dunn, one of the stars of the hit show "Jackass," has died in a car accident in Pennsylvania.   Police say the West Chester native was one of two people killed in a single car crash in Chester County early Monday morning. The double fatal crash happened at about 2:38 a.m. on Route 322 near Pottstown Pike in West Goshen Township.   Just before the crash it's believed Ryan Dunn was last seen at Barnaby's in West Chester along with his friend and passenger, 30-year-old Zachary Hartwell o

The partnership between Germany and Japan did not succeed during the World War II. However, they are rumored to come together again and this time, to bring fun instead of destruction to the world. A new report is indicating that Mazda and Audi are considering a partnership to develop a Wankel engine.   Inside Line, a free online car magazine, says the two companies have had informal talks to explore the possibility of joining forces to develop rotary engines. Audi recently unveiled the A1 ha

Next generation BMW 3 Series shows more skin

After the 1 Series has been released on the internet, the next car in the BMW range to be unveiled is the king of compact luxury sedan, the 3 Series. As we are nearing to its launch at the September Frankfurt Motorshow, BMW continues to peel away the disguise on the latest F30 prototype. BMW has been rather conservative with the design of the 3 Series since the introduction of the E36 in 1990, and the new F30 is no exception. The styling of the F30 is a clear evolution of the current E90 3 Serie

Travis Pastrana spoofs boss Ken Block in new video

We love a little friendly interteam rivalry--especially when it involves rally drivers Travis Pastrana and his boss at DC Shoes, Ken Block.   Gymkhana ace Block released a video in February featuring his new livery for the DC Shoes WRC Ford Fiesta and his 2011 schedule of events. The hard-rock-and -techno-scored video shows Block in race gear, with his car and a few femme fatales in black vinyl and other DC gear.   Block recently teased Pastrana during his Gymkhana Grid event for not knowing

Ford sets high hopes on sales target by 2015

Citing the Asian expansion and the increasing popularity of small cars as reasons, Ford Motor Co. predicts that its global sales will increase by 50% by 2015 to 8 million each year. In an e-mail, spokesman John Stoll said that Ford anticipates that by 2020, small cars will make up 55% of sales and that one-third of sales will come from Asia. In an interview with CNBC, Ford CEO Alan Mulally gave confirmation of this goal.   A source said last October that in private, executives are working to m

Mazda MX-5 shines in latest J.D Power survey

[extract] The Mazda MX-5 has been ranked the highest sports car in the 2011 J.D. Power vehicle ownership satisfaction survey published recently. It beats worthy opponents such as the Volkswagen Scirocco, Audi TT, Mercedes Benz CLK and SLK. This is not the first time that the Mazda MX-5 has been successful in the J.D. Power Survey. It even notched up a satisfaction rating of 82.4 percent, an increase on its last year

Bahrain Grand Prix cancelled. Again

So, after putting the Bahrain Grand Prix back on the 2011 calendar last week, the FIA, at the vehement protests of the teams, decided to turn its back once again at the Middle Eastern nation.   To be fair, it was the organisers of the race itself that requested to withdraw after the backlash, but this shows how shambolic the FIA is once again.   The Formula One teams expressed their disapproval at the reinstatement of the Bahrain race, mainly due to the logistical reasons I outlined previous
