Can you last 4 hours?

Take a look around your office now and see if you can visually select three or more colleagues whom you think will enjoy go-karting. If you can able to do that, then you just might want to consider signing up for the OCBC Corporate Karting Challenge.   It is the first time that there is such a Challenge, where teams are to be registered under an organisation. However, members of the team need not be employees of the company. That means, you can approach me to drive for your team!   Each team

Cars have never been this boring

When was the last time an affordable, mass market car that was launched managed to get you just that little bit hot under the collar with lust or desire?   Personally, I can't recall so it must have been donkey years ago. And for good reason. It has been a long time since there has been a bread & butter car that could inspire even a teeniest bit of motoring soul or passion. In fact, I think it has or will get worse in the coming years.   Take a look at the line up of affordable cars to

Gemballa rises again with the Porsche Cayenne Gemballa Tornado

Uwe Gemballa may be dead but the company that bears his name lives on. This Gemballa tuned Porsche Cayenne Turbo is proof of it. Aptly named the Porsche Cayenne Gemballa Tornado it showcases the newly formed Gemballa GmBH, a company built on the ashes of the debt ridden original company helmed by the late Uwe Gemballa.   The Tornado is based on the latest type 958 Porsche Cayenne and it the company's latest model. It showcases what this new, old company can do to a Porsche. Now under the hand

Ferrari reveals the FF: The first four wheel drive production Ferrari

Ferrari has officially revealed details on its first production four wheel drive car called the FF. The new v12 model, which effectively replaces the quite awkward looking, quite unloved (or unnoticed) V12 612 Scaglietti come with an all wheel drive system which aims to attract a new sort of Ferrari customer. One that usually lives or tackles all sorts of roads and all sorts of weather I suppose 'FF' stands for Four Seats and Four Wheel Drive. It is Pininfarina designed but with inputs from Fer

Hate traffic jams? The Chinese pay people to sit it out!

The way people cope with traffic jams has been evolving over the years. In really bad ones, some people turn of their engines get out of the car and have some coffee. But in China, it has become a business opportunity.   Chinese motorists can now hire people to sit in jams for them while they are sent by a substitute driver to their destination on motorbikes. And while they are weaving their way through the traffic jam on a bike, a man sits in their car and drives it to your workplace. This un

BMW 1 Series, Mmmmmm

BMW, or more specifically, BMW M, recently previewed the 1 Series M in Singapore.   The 1-Series M must be one of the most eagerly-anticipated BMWs of all time. For years, there has been constant rumours and speculation going around as to whether BMW will actually make an M version of its small car, and even debate on what it would be called, since M1 was the name given to BMW's supercar of the 1980s.   Now that it's finally here, BMW M fans can definitely rejoice.   While us Singaporeans

Fuel filler cap location top tip

-fuel filler cap from BMW hydrogen car- If you're one of those people that travel a lot and drive different cars all the time either because you are using a company car, a rented one, a borrowed one or even a stolen one you may have to stop for fuel. You would usually want to park your car at the side where the fuel filler cap is closest to the pump but since you're in a car that is foreign to you, which side is the fuel filler cap on? The driver's side or the passenger side?   If you w

Volkswagen Golf Rabbit, especially for Singapore

So, Volkswagen has launched a special edition of the Golf for the Rabbit Chinese New Year.   Aside from the connotations of being associated with a cute, fluffy animal (the Rabbit is also the name for the Golf in the US), the other interesting thing about this particular Golf is that it is specially tailor-made for our own Singapore market. Which is something that doesn't happen very often.   So what gives? Why the special treatment for us?   One reason I can think of is that, with the spi

Young families who want a dash of chic in their choice of cars can rejoice, for the Mini Countryman has arrived in Singapore at last.   The Countryman is the latest addition to Mini's burgeoning range of cars, and is the most practical model of all the Minis yet, which should suit couples who have just started easing into parenthood, yet want to experience the coolness of Mini ownership, for the Mini brand is now no longer restricted to the free and swinging singles.   Personally, I am all f

VW may kill off their award winning 'Twincharger' engine

Volkswagen may pull the plug on their award winning 'Twincharger' engine. The innovative supercharged and turbocharged 1.4liter engine that makes as much horsepower as a normally aspirated 2.0liter engine (but a whole lot more torque) has won 'Engine of the Year' twice (2009-2010) but this little feat has not stopped VW evaluating whether they should stop producing it due to expensive production costs.   The sources inside VW said that while innovative and technically sound, the TSI forced ind

Daihatsu will pull out from Europe by 2013

It looks like another car company has suffered from intense competition. Daihatsu has issued a statement that it will be pulling out from the European market by 2013 citing the strength of the Japanese Yen against the Euro and the UK Pound Sterling have made exports to Europe unprofitable. How unprofitable you may ask?   Well, in 2007 they sold 58,600 vehicles throughout Europe. In 2010 they sold 19,800 vehicles. Quite a massive drop indeed and one that surely makes such a drastic measure like

Driving's biggest distractions

Imagine a doctor watching television while doing surgery or a student studying at Starbucks paying more attention to his coffee and the girls surrounding him rather than his textbooks. Distractions can cost lives (or grades), but when it comes to driving, its a whole lot more serious.   There are many people out there on the roads texting while driving, talking on the phone, playing with their Ipods and most of them get away with it. None of them crashed into a side wall and died, neither did

F1 to finally go HD in 2011

Motorsports fans, rejoice. Formula One took its sweet time in rolling out coverage in glorious High Definition, but starting next season, viewers will be able to soak up all the open-wheel action in 1080i resolution.   According to certain reports, F1 organizers have been toying with the notion of delivering a HD feed for some time. This winter, Formula One Management (FOM) began testing brand-new equipment to make sure that broadcasts could be made at the rate of 42 mbps. Those tests apparent
