Smokin' time at Changi

SPARK Motorsports held its first drift clinic on Sunday, where 15 local drifters were treated to a day of sideways action with 2004 D1GP champion Ryuji Miki, Singapore's leading drifter Ivan Lim and aspiring Formula Drift USA driver Charles Ng.   Held at the Changi Exhibition Centre grounds, it was a hot sunny day as the participants did their practice runs. A brief late afternoon shower cooled the weather just before the friendly competition was held.   I was hoping it would be tandem batt

Fights among family members are inevitable. Such is the case at the Volkswagen Group, where Audi and Porsche were both fighting for the right to develop future sports cars and luxury sedans for the German auto conglomerate's portfolio of brands.   Ultimately, Porsche got the last laugh as Volkswagen CEO, Martin Winterkorn, decided to give task to Porsche. This means Porsche will develop future platforms that will underpin high-performance automobiles using front-mid and rear-mid-mounted drive

Toyota Etios - A Toyota for emerging nations or for all nations?

Cars have grown in size over the years. In the late 1960s the Toyota Corolla was a tiny, tiny car. It was about the size of a peanut, or a Perodua Kelisa with a boot. It then grew into something the size of a decent sized 4 door car in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s. It was basically the size of the current Toyota Vios or the earlier Soluna. And then by the 1990s, it grew into something slightly larger, more comfortable and heavier. By 2010, the Corolla had grown into a bulbous car the

BMW finally previews the 1 Series M Coupe

BMW has finally released official photos of the long awaited BMW 1 Series M Coupe. The car, scheduled for its official debut at the upcomming Detroit Motor Show looks sweet indeed.   While the 1 Series M has the same twin turbocharged straight six 3.0liter engine in the already sweet 135i Coupe, it gets a nice fat boost in power. It now runs the same specification as BWM's Z4 sDrive35iS. This means it now has 335bhp and 450Nm to play with instead of 261bhp and 315Nm. More than enough to run r

Impatiently awaiting my new ride

Not too long ago, I paid my final tribute to a trusty friend on this blog. And like the saying goes, "out with the old, in with the new". As a replacement for my trusty ride, I will be welcoming a spanking new Suzuki Swift Sport some time within the next week. Now, the wisdom of buying a new car at record high COE prices or the debate over the Swift Sport are all topics that have been discussed on this blog. So, let us leave those topics aside. Today's post is all about the pre-car collection ex

Marangoni/TRC Italia Alfa Romeo Giulietta - Eco-friendly tire color overdose

Before we get to the details, I have to say that going green does not actually mean having things colored green. But no one told Marangoni who has decided to showcase their new eco-friendly line of tires which are very green in color on a TRC Italia tuned Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1750 Quadrifoglio Verde.   The Marangoni/TRC Italia Giulietta has been christened the Giulietta G430 iMove. I suppose the name comes from the fact that the car features a body kit that takes all of its cues from the Ferra

Volvo to go mainstream with revised pricing strategy

Volvo is set to go mainstream as the company's CEO, Stefan Jacoby, has announced plans to drop their ambitions of becoming a premium automaker.   Speaking with AutoCar, Jacoby stated "Let's ditch this talk about premium, it sounds like a pricing strategy and it's got an expensive ring to it." He continued, "We need to focus on elegant Scandinavian simplicity, our own unique identity, and not copy our competitors (Audi, BMW, and Mercedes)." While Jacoby has made previous comments to this effect

Honda jumps into the Suzuki Alto market

Honda has decided to join into the developing nations small car market with the Brio concept car at the Thailand International Motor Show recently. The tiny city car is meant for the emerging markets as Honda states that they intend to start sales of the Brio in Thailand and India in 2011. The car seems to have edgier design cues and it looks like a smaller Mazda 2 with a huge chrome Honda grille. This look is unexpected as it looks different from the pretty feminine Jazz supermini, the most com

The car gets a widebody kit called the 'Widestar' and this modification is for those who somehow think that the SLS isn't butch or, shall we say isn't wide enough to create an impact at the local nightspots or at the country clubs.   Since the most important addition to the SLS is the body kit, we'll start with this first. KLIMS 2010: The Concept Cars

What I like about Motor Shows are concept cars. In fact, if a motor show is devoid of concept cars it would feel as if the event is lacking something. It feels like having fish & chips without the tartar sauce or having a hot dog without relish, and mustard. So when the Kuala Lumpur Motor Show 2010 (KLIMS) had on display a whole lot of concept cars, it felt like a proper motor show. Of course, not all look like the Lotus Esprit concept pictured above   These are the Good, the So-so and the
