BMW's V12 won't stick around for long

BMW reckons its large twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12 will not have much of a future soon as emission regulations round the world get tougher by the day.   In an interview with Autoblog, BMW M Chief Executive Markus Flasch has been quoted saying that the engine, which sees action in the 760Li, will not be existing in another model in the foreseeable future.   This is interesting as the flagship 602bhp 7 Series is reported to be selling well in the Middle East and China. In fact, th

BMW's new 5-er looks so much better without Bangle

It's only been a couple a months since Chris Bangle, infamous for designing what everyone dubbed "bangle butt" on the BMW series of vehicles, left the famed German company. Since then Adrian van Hooydonk has been hard at work slimming the profiles and softening up the lines on their cars.   A beautiful example of their hard work is in their new 5 Series. The team has kept the looks of the car in-line with their current 3 Series, but predictably stretched, certainly staying true to how they use

BMW's M2 goes up against Mercedes-AMG's A45

BMW's M2 goes up against Mercedes-AMG's A45 in a drag race.   In terms of real world performance, both are very similar-sized sports car even though they don't share the same body shape. However, other than the aforementioned body shape, they differ when it comes to engine size and the way they deploy their power.   Both have almost similar power outputs, with the A45 AMG good for 376bhp while the M2 makes do with 365bhp. Even though the AMG has the all-wheel drive launch advantage, the M2

BMW's Intelligent Headlamps, now keeping more people safer

Do you often drive when nighttime falls? Well, my father, for one, quite so often does just that. And, if you do so, too, chances are you often find yourselves kind of blinded by the illumination of cars which are coming from the opposite lane. That's not to mention that there's a great number of cars that utilise Xenon bulbs these days, blinding you even more.   However, the frequency of you getting blinded by oncoming traffic is about to decrease, thanks to the so-called 'Intelligent Headlam

BMW's i5 electric SUV won't hit the showrooms earlier than 2021

Last month, patented images of BMW's third i model leaked online, showing off the model's SUV-like body shape. However, it is not due anytime soon.   Said to be more than five years away from reality, the i5 won't launch until 2021 to allow it to make full use of an improved electric powertrain and the most advanced autonomous technologies, according to Autocar's interview with Ian Robertson, BMW's Head of Sales and Marketing.   Roberston added on that the i brand is still very new and ther

BMW's i3 can look pretty good with some new shoes

Shoes can make or break one's outfit if not properly matched. You could say same thing applies to cars. And swapping your wheels out for new ones are probably the easiest way to customise your car's appearance.   SR Auto Group fitted its BMW i3 with a set of PUR LG04 alloy rims with a custom made flat lip and blue screws which are in the same shade as the i3's body trim accents.   Nothing else seems to be changed other than an upgraded suspension which drops the car by a fair bit. I must sa

BMW's chrome-like paint will cost you quite a bit

BMW has just showed off its most expensive paint, the BMW Individual Pure Metal Silver. It is an option on the M6 Gran Coupe in America and it will set you back S$13,600. Yes you saw that correctly. It is pretty expensive.   So why is it so expensive? According to the video, the paint material used for this colour is 40 times more expensive than the more normal colours. The car has to be removed from the normal production line and then checked through 3 times in the finishing areas to see whet

BMW's China-only 1 Series Sedan has arrived

Bavaria's smallest four door model has finally been revealed but sadly, the potential hot seller for our market is unlikely to come to our shores. Based on the Compact Sedan Concept, the BMW 1 Series Sedan is designed and built solely in China by the brand's local joint venture, BMW Brilliance Automotive.   For those curious on how the interior looks like, this is the only official photo of the car for now and oddly, no other official details regarding the car has been released. BMW's answer to Merc's SLS and Audi's R8

2014 is the year to look forward to if you're ogling over this new BMW. Its called the Z9 and its set to take on the mighty Mercedes SLS AMG and Audi's R8. Problem is.. isn't that a bit late for BMW? The well received Merc and the awesome Audi have been lauded upon for their engineering excellence and for their impeccable style. And now, its BMW's turn.   The Z9 is meant to replace the now extinct Z8 which was nothing special. Now this, truly looks the part as BMW's flagship supercar to take o

BMW's 3 series ad gets a weird ban from UK TV channels

According to Carscoops, one of BMW's ad for its new facelifted 3-Series has been banned from airing in UK as it promotes reckless driving. Three complaints were received by UK's "Advertising Standard Authority" (ASA) from viewers about the ad which was titled "Made for Curves".   It issued a statement saying that quick acceleration and excessive speed were not explicitly indicated in the ad but the ad "showed the car being driven along the coastal road from various angles, through a successi

BMW's 2011 3 Series: Will it be a winner?

When the latest BMW 5 series dropped its cover in recent months, everyone was raving about how it looks much better than the previous model, how its better equipped, more fuel efficient and the list goes on. However, that's just the beginning. Because this is what the new 3 series will probably look like, and I must say, it looks pretty good.   Underneath the bold, masculine lines along the side panels and that aggressive looking hood which kind of reminds me of the previous 5 series, lies a

BMW: The ultimate niche machines, not driving machines anymore.

BMW is one company that keeps losing the plot over and over again. I have never known a company so relentless in pursuing niche markets that it comes up with models that are supposed to be a result of a comprehensive market study. This means that all the current models made by BMW are actually designed by studies based on opinion given by the following:   A fat American 6ft 5in couch potato who thinks Football is a game where burly men bang into each other while chasing a oval shaped ball and

BMW Xperience 2011 in Delhi, India

BMW recently sent a few local journalists to Delhi for the BMW Xperience 2011, which was organised by BMW India to showcase its xDrive all-wheel-drive technology in a rugged environment.   Having already experienced the wonders of BMW's xDrive technology as a passenger at the BMW Innovations Xpo back in September, it was time for us to take the wheel and try it ourselves on real, off-road conditions.   We arrived at the event venue, which was set up in the typical slick BMW style.

BMW X6 loses control and takes out road signs before smashing into a building (and possibly a pedestrian) at Jalan Besar

TL;DR - Double whammy as a BMW X6 crashes into building before taking out nearby pedestrians at Jalan Besar At this point, it’s not safe to be anywhere. Even on pavements, there’s a risk that a pedestrian gets hit by vehicles. Here's an example.  Watch this 89-second clip of the crash.  What happened? The driver of the BMW X6 lost control of the car and went head on into the building (right beside Hotel 81…) at Jalan Besar.  He also took out the Mayo Street roa

BMW X6 gets to become a 5 seater for 2011

Most of you readers out there know about the BMW X6. BMW's crossover vehicle that is essentially a hatchback on stilts. Or if your imagination is as warped as mine the X6 is actually a Proton Gen 2 photoshopped to 1.5times larger with a different grille and larger wheels for that crossover look. Anyway, BMW is now offering it as a five seater instead of the usual four. The rear seats is now a normal looking bench instead of individual rear seats.   Beginning April 2011, customers in Europe an

BMW X6 and X5 recalled over fire risk

It looks like General Motors is not the only car manufacturer that is affected by massive recall in the US recently. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that BMW is recalling some 2,642 units of the X5 and X6 SUVs fitted with diesel engines due to an engine bay fire risk. The affected vehicles are manufactured between 20 April 2012 and 29 May 2012.   According to the official statement by BMW, due to a machining error of the steering gear surface, power steering

BMW X5's new look

BMW's are looking much better these days. And these are the first photos of what the new X5 will look like. Obviously, it still remains tank-like; huge, high driving position and enormous wheels. You will still be able to intimidate others on the road even if you're the height of Mini-Me. There are a few stylistic changes to the exterior with the new headlights which have been taken from the new 5 Series which is a good thing, and the tail-lamps have been restyled slightly as well. BMW X4 seen in public without any camouflage

A couple of shots of the upcoming BMW X4 SUV has been spotted online without any camouflage. Judging from how early it was leaked, it looks like it will be launched earlier than expected.   Said to debut around the middle of 2018, the car looks significantly different from its predecessor. Featuring rear lights that are thinner than we expected, the car lookers lower and more Fastback-like now.   Photographed here in M 40d guise, the car will likely share the same petrol and diesel powertra

BMW X3 M and X4 M confirmed

BMW's M motorsports division is developing high-performance X3 M and X4 M compact SUVs to serve as halo models for the X3 crossover and its slant-back sibling, the X4.   Prototypes of the new M models were seen at the Nürburgring racetrack in conjunction with the DTM race last weekend, wrapped in what must be the least effective camouflage ever, with "X3 M" and "X4 M" rendered in giant letters on the side. Regular readers may recall that this is not the first time the X3 M has been seen on th

BMW World 2010

The BMW World isn't just a showcase for their latest model line-up. It's also a celebration of their past success in the automotive industry as well as providing the visitor an insight into their future. On display are a slew of the latest 5-series as well as the rather special looking 5-series GT.   BMW also took the opportunity to launch the all new X3 at the event in front of the local media.
