Wimmer RS Mercedes Benz C 63 AMG - South East Asia needs more Mercs like these

One problem Mercedes Benz has in South East Asia is that a lot of people here think that Mercedes Benz is for 'Towkays', old people and uncles. I, for one do not think for one second that this is true. It is actually the opposite actually. If you've driven the latest crop of Mercedes, you'd be amazed on the performance (even from the smallest 1.6-litre BlueEfficiency C-Class), the steering feel and the handling of their latest cars.   Then if you're actually lucky enough to play around

Williams help design Singapore's first electric hypercar

Vanda Electrics will be debuting its first all electric hypercar at the Geneva Motor Show. It will be dubbed the Dendrobium.   The Singaporean electric company has been working with Williams Advanced Engineering and is set to debut with an over-the-top exterior and interior design.   It is reported via Carscoops that the car's carbon fiber monocoque has been developed by Williams and the Formula one team also played a role in the development of its powertrain. It is rumored that the car's e

Will you save more fuel when you coast in gear or in neutral?

We have heard from some that it is more efficient to coast in netural while others have argued that coasting in gear is better. So who is correct?   Thanks to Engineering Explained, we do somehow have an answer. We say somehow because it largely depends on the scenario where you are driving on. That said, it is generally more fuel saving to leave it in gear and coast as the engine no longer injects fuel when no throttle input is present.   Watch the video below for a more in-depth explanati

Will you pay S$213,000 for this?

As far as car collecting goes, a "barn find" in its original condition is very much cherished by car collectors and this very rusted Porsche 356 A Speedster was sold for $152,700 (S$213,000) recently.   According to Carscoops, this example is a 1955 T1 model and is said to be the 212th unit out of the 1,700 units ever produced. The car was also sold with an engine from the same era that was "supposedly overhauled, but never installed”. We guessed that probably also meant that more money might

Will we see a return of the Pulsar nameplate in Singapore?

A friend of mine visited the Nissan showroom recently and was informed that a hatchback from Thailand would be launched in Singapore sometime in August this year.   A visit to Nissan Thailand website revealed that this model could likely be the Nissan Pulsar. The Pulsar hatchback is known as the Tiida (Latio Sport) in other parts of the world. Hence, the Pulsar is the spiritual successor to the Latio Sport, which was a popular hatchback in Singapore.   The Pulsar shares the sa

Will we be getting this facelifted Camry?

The Toyota Camry has just been facelifted and Thailand is the first country to receive it. The biggest news for this mid-life update is the debut of the new 2.0-litre VVT-iW & D-4S engine which will be paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. Previously, the Camry 2.0 features an ancient four-speed automatic.   While not much is known about the six-speed automatic, we do know the new 2.0-litre engine is a pretty advance unit which will be running a high compression ratio of 12.7:1 ver

Will triple turbo engines be the future?

[extract] The turbocharging of engines in modern cars today is getting pretty common. You can see all sorts of forced induction set-ups, from a small-sized single turbo and up to a twin-turbo set-up. But a triple turbo set-up is something new and two German automakers are venturing into that foray.   The rumours of BMW

Will this Honda Civic be the new Civic for us?

Honda's new 2016 Civic sedan has been caught out on the streets before its official launch. If the Asean version of the Civic looks something like this, it is going to be good news for the Civic fans here because this is perhaps one of the best-looking civic sedans we have seen in years. We especially like the sloping roofline which gives it a much sportier stance than the current generation model.   According to Honda, it plans to launch the 10th generation of the Civic "on Youtube", accordi

Will this be the successor to the ever popular 205 GTi?

It will only be a matter of days to the launch of Peugeot's all new 208 in October 2011. Directly aimed at the likes of the Ford Fiesta and the Renault Clio, it is considered to be the most important model of the year for the automaker due to the supermini's popularity, especially in its native country.   It will be smaller and lighter than the car it replaces, but the newcomer is aiming to make an even bigger splash than the top selling 207, thanks to distinctive looks and efficient engines.

Will this be the Bugatti Veyron killer?

Every now and then we would hear some news about a rather unknown automotive company introducing their exotic super sports car. Some companies eventually made their prototypes into production models, such as the Pagani Zonda, Bugatti Veyron, etc. and many others did not even go past the planning stage and their ideas and plans just got lost into oblivion. Now, a French design company, Genty, plans to build a car that will beat the Veyron in terms of speed. It is named the Genty Akylone.   Arou

Will the next Fiat Bravo look like this ?

[extract] The current Fiat Bravo has been a little long in the tooth. It has been around since 2007 and its main competitors such as the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf and Opel Astra have either come out with newer models or undergone facelift since 2007. The unloved Fiat Bravo never achieves the expected annual sales of 120,000 units, with its best year in 2008 when 95,292 units were delivered.   Rumors suggested that a hatchback version of the upcoming Fiat Viaggio sedan would be marke

With only 12bhp in difference between the BMW M5 and the Mercedes-AMG, which of these high-performance sedans will be faster in a drag race?   Organised by Carwow, a British automotive portal, the new M5 was pitted against the E63 S in a series of tests, including the quarter mile drag race, a rolling race and a brake test from 112km/h.   With both cars having nearly identical power figures and weight, watch the video and see which of the all-wheel drive sedans is the faster car.   https:

Will technology hamper the ultimate driving experience?

We are at the last quarter of 2013, and in a flash another year will soon be upon us. I did not realise it is the end of September until I saw Vivocity preparing for Christmas.   The movies I used to watch as a kid are being remade. Cartoons nowadays lack the entertainment feel, air travel has become more affordable, with more tourist arrivals recorded. There was no Terminal 3, kinetic rain or Project Jewel when I was a kid.   Things were simple, mechanical and, if I may add, fun.   Cars

Will paddle shifters be the future of automotive transmissions?

It is evident that many automakers nowadays feature automated-manual transmissions (that usually comes with a paddle shifter) in their performance cars. In other words, these automated-manual transmissions with paddle shifters are the in-thing now. Every technology in our lives are ever changing and getting replaced with new and better ones and will paddle shifting transmissions replace manual ones and even conventional auto gearboxes totally?   I have asked the above mentioned question

Will Hyundai give us this mid-engine hot hatch?

Recently shown at the Seoul Motor Show, Hyundai's RM15 concept should have caught the hot hatch fans' attention. Using the Veloster's body, it ditches the front-wheel drive, front-engine layout for a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive one. Now that would have gotten your attention i hope!   Using a 2.0-litre turbocharged T-GDI engine that is transversely-mounted behind the two-seater cabin and in front of the rear axle, it produces 296bhp and 382Nm of torque, allowing the car to hit 100km/h in 4.7

Will a Alfa 4C towed by a Tesla be faster than racing a 4C powered by its own steam?

In this Head 2 Head episode, Motor Trend compares the Tesla Model X with Bentley's new flagship SUV, the Bentagya.
