5 door Volkswagen Up previewed - I doubt it'll make it here

Here's one Volkswagen which we may not be able to see over here in this region due to high taxes and the COE. The 5 door Volkwagen Up is actually a pretty neat 'People's Car' (which is what Volkswagen stands for) in that it provides a decent set of wheels for the general urban populace. It is set to be sold in Europe by the fourth quarter of 2012.   This little UPstart follows hot on the heels of the recently launched 3 door hatchback variant. It has clever packaging and frugal fuel sip

S660 Neo Classic body kit released its Honda owners in Japan

Shown at the 2017 edition of the Tokyo Auto Salon, Honda has been refining its S660 Neo Classic body kit for some time. It is now finally for sale.   As one can see, this is no ordinary body kit as it totally changes the look of the car, with Honda trying to give the car a retro, old-school look. The body kit consists of new head and tail lights, new bumpers, fenders, grill and bonnet and are made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic   After purchasing the body panels, buyers will need to paint

The new Porsche 911 Turbo...mercy mercy me...

I attended the launch of the new 911 Turbo last week at Stuttgart Auto's Leng Kee Road showroom. Well...to be honest, I didn't even know there was a 'new' Turbo in the works. When they finally unveiled the Turbo, low and behold it looked exactly the same as the previous model. I seriously think the Porsche designers are getting lazier with every 'new' Porsche. I know Porsche calls it 'evolution' but it looks as if evolution has skipped over the latest Turbo.     Granted the new Turbo comes

Electric Honda HR-V launched for China market

Honda has just unveiled its long-awaited Everus VE-1 electric crossover. It is produced with its joint-venture partner Guangzhou Automobile Group and will only be for sale for the Chinese market.   Using Honda's HR-V/Vezel as a base, it isn't a surprise that the VE-1 looks almost the same. The most notable difference is the new front bumper and a fake grill that opens up to reveal a plug for charging up the vehicle.   Powering the electric vehicle is an electric motor with 161bhp and 280Nm o

Now we know how the rear of the Toyota Supra looks like

Not too long ago, a photo of the upcoming Toyota Supra's front end was leaked onto the net. Now, someone has managed to reveal its rear.   Both photos were leaked by SupraMKV and from the yellow example we can see here, the car looks pretty much like a more tame version of the FT-1 Concept. We are loving the large double exhaust pipes and the F1-inspired rear fog light that is integrated into its rear diffuser. Somehow the yellow paint looks darn good on the car too. The car will be revealed

Cars have never been this boring

When was the last time an affordable, mass market car that was launched managed to get you just that little bit hot under the collar with lust or desire?   Personally, I can't recall so it must have been donkey years ago. And for good reason. It has been a long time since there has been a bread & butter car that could inspire even a teeniest bit of motoring soul or passion. In fact, I think it has or will get worse in the coming years.   Take a look at the line up of affordable cars to

'Downsized' Fiat 500 on the way!

In the world of modern technology, downsizing is the word. I could recall that twenty years ago, the size of a handphone could make it double up as a self defense tool. Fast forward to the 21st century, a handphone could fit into your right pocket with ease and could perform functions beyond your imagination.   Back to the automobile industry, the word 'downsizing' does not refer to the physical size of the car, but points to the capacity of the engine. The founder of this trend is none other

Koenigsegg explains how they crash test their cars

Being a small company with limited resources, Koenigsegg still has to crash their ultra expensive cars like any other brands too. So how do they make sure their cars meet the safety regulations set by various countries? Unlike most large manufacturers which need to crash at least 16 cars and lose around S$540,000 to get the crash tests done, Koenigsegg can't afford to do the same as crashing the same amount of cars would equate to a lost of more than S$40 million. In fact, 16 cars is aroun

VW teases Jetta R

During the European press launch of the new 2011 Jetta, the media got a taste of the Jetta R with a special prototype fitted with a 3.6-liter V6 engine, six-speed DSG transmission and Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel drive system.   As you can see in the pictures, the V6 prototype's body has not been altered yet. Only the bigger wheels and four-tail pipes at the back signal that this is not your normal Jetta. Should it make it to production, you can rest assured that the R division will dress-up

GM defend the Volt

General Motors is in a dispute with critics regarding its upcoming Chevy Volt, which the automaker touts as an all-electric car but critics call it a plug-in hybrid.   Critics from publications such as Edmunds.com, Popular Mechanics, and Motor Trend magazine contend that the onboard gasoline engine kicks in on the Volt during a hard acceleration, and that makes it a hybrid. GM calls the Volt an "extended range electric vehicle." The Volt features a gasoline engine which acts as a generator for

Driving and having a hands free conversation is like driving drunk. Nonsense, I say.

[extract] -using this while driving is as good as having a few bottles of anything alcoholic according to two spoilsports.   Recently a study was made on the concentration of people using a phone in the car, even while using a hands-free device. The study found that braking reaction time and driving skill were impaired in almost all motorists who took part in the study. Two scientists, Jason Watson and David Strayer, psychologists at the University of Utah, located in the land of cheeseburge

The Audi RS4 has returned

The great WD-40

[extract] My VW Jetta Sport is almost 2 years old. In one of my earlier post, I mentioned some of the quirkiness of the car. Well, to console myself, I tell myself that no car is perfect, just like every person is bound to have some discomfort or pain here and there. One of the quirkiness that I discovered recently is that the left side mirror emits a squeaky noise whenever it folds and unfolds. It is kind of irritating and certainly very

VW welcomes revised F1 rules

Volkswagen motor racing representative Hans-Joachim Stuck has applauded F1's radical engine formula for 2013.   The German car giant and its subsidiary Porsche have been linked with a possible F1 foray in the near future if the sport moves away from its current V8 engine formula. Recently in Monaco, the FIA green-lighted a new efficient formula for 2013 featuring small energy-efficient turbo engines.   "The conditions for a possible entrance of the Volkswagen group have been created," hailed

The return of the iconic RX-7

The above image shows an illustration of what the next generation RX-7 could look like. A proper two-door coupe replacement for the much-missed Mazda RX-7 could make its appearance as early as 2011 as a 2012 model. The introduction of the two-seat RX-7 will lead to the death of the four-seat RX-8 with its 'suicide-style' rear doors, a feature which I finds rather unique among the sea of coupes.   Officially, the only piece of information that Mazda has released about its next generation RX mo
