Recently a friend of mine was interested in 'upgrading' his Mazda Roadster (that's Miata MX5 to most of you) to a 2+2. Choices included the BMW 320Ci, the Audi A5 and even the Volkswagen Scirocco. We had a small discussion on the cars mentioned above.

It made me take a long look at the Scirocco and I realized why I never caught on with its looks or why it didn't make me weak in the knees even though it drove extremely well, had a great sports car driving position and was very well put together.

The reason was that the Volkswagen Scirocco is actually a fifth generation Honda Civic EG model from the early to mid-1990s fitted with wider arches.

The VW Scirocco is supposed to be a three door coupe. In reality it is as low as the Honda Civic mentioned above. It may be wider than the Civic but if you look carefully, it does have the same side silhouette as the Civic. Take a proper look at both car's C pillars. Imagine the EG Civic with a wide arched bodykit (and slightly smaller rear windows) with different badging and you get a VW Scirocco. This is especially even clearer if you were slightly drunk or on medication.

I somehow think that VW missed the boat in styling the Scirocco. It should have been done like an updated version to the VW Corrado (below) instead of a very sporty Golf which it is based on.

It should have had a more sloping rear hatch instead of still thinking of being practical and all that. Since VW already has the Golf for practicality I still wonder why VW didn't go the whole hog and make a proper coupe.

What VW actually came up with is a recycled Honda Civic EG series with a wider rear end. Imagine what would VW do in about fifteen years or so, a copy of the final Euro Civic type R hatchback with wider rear arches?

What garbage, might as well say the new Rolls Royce looks like an old Merc E class?

I beg to differ. The New RR like the new E-class? Actually the New E-class looks like an old Merc from the 1950s. And you don't need any alcohol to believe so.

Except for the Beetle, VW has never been known for its styling genius.

Haha this article has probably given civic wannabes an idea on how to mod their civic. make a scirocco replica. Well the similarities between the 2 cars are rather apparent. The scirocco has never appealed to me as i don't like hatchbacks. i prefer a proper coupe.

A little too mild for our liking?

And just like that, another sgCarMart review is ready to sneak up on you! Seems like Julian is missing so James summons our producer himself to pair with him for the review! Of course, a round of hazing is necessary to initiate the fresh blood, and we do so courtesy of the boot of the Mazda3! Just kidding. The Mazda's 444 litre boot space is apparently good enough to fit two Jons. But as with any family hauler, space in the rear bench is just as important, and does the Mazda succeed? With flying colours apparently! Those that keep up with our reviews will be well aware that the new Mazda3 has made great strides in interior quality, and likewise, our producers seems fairly impressed with the build quality up at the front. So after all is said and done, do they opt to buy the car? Watch the full video below to find out!

MX-5 lady left note to criticise Volvo driver’s parking. Plot twist made me Google meaning of the word “Sanctimonious”.

Imagine parking your car like you passed your driving test on the first try and then returning to your car with this note on the windscreen -     Did you really park like an idiot? Who left the note? Did they get hurt while getting out of their car from the passenger side? So many questions. To the car camera for answers.     Here’s our supposedly wronged and potentially injured party arriving in an MX-5. Very good choice of car. After 30 seconds of parking and having to exit the car from the passenger side, the lady comes out to take a photo of the “offending” Volvo S60.     She spends about 10 seconds taking photos of the car from multiple angles. We know the Volvo S60 looks good from any angle. After walking one round inspecting the car like it was at the front gate of an army camp, she leaves her note.     Did the Volvo driver park like an idiot? Well here’s the tea.     I can hear you screaming: “Lies! The driver probably took this photo at another lot! No way someone will park in that spot! Not even the nimble Miata!” Here’s the other photo.     At least the Volvo driver was nice enough to mask out the MX-5’s plate.   Here’s the full video uploaded on SG Road Vigilante:   And “Sanctimonious” means “making a show of being morally superior to other people.”   ----------------------------------------------- Impressed by how the MX-5 can fit into snug places? Here are some for sale.   Or maybe you're leaning more on the innocent Volvo S60? We've got you covered here too!   -----------------------------------------------

A woman being a PUBIC nuisance on Middle Road. No, that's not a typo

You probably have seen a video that went viral recently about a woman removing her clothes in anger on Middle Road. She even went as far as pulling down her panties! If you haven’t, here’s the video courtesy of Roads.sg In the video, you can see a woman taking off her clothes in response to a man (a cab driver) walking away from her. She is believed to have done this to play the victim card and make false accusations that the cab driver was the one who did it to her. Crucial eye witness account An eye witness of the incident posted the video on Roads.sg According to the witness, he saw the lady kicking the cab. She then began chasing the cab driver, scratching, punching and going all bat shit crazy. The driver did not retaliate to her provocation. So what triggered this? There have been no reports (as of yet) as to what led to this behaviour, but theories are being thrown around on social media. Even I would be offended. At least give me $10 What happened in the end In a recent STOMP article posted earlier today, it’s been confirmed that the lady, a 31-year old woman was arrested for PUBLIC nuisance. Yeap, I spelt that one right. You can read the full article here

Eh LTA! Don’t touch my car leh!

An image of an LTA officer checking the undercarriage of a Mazda RX8 with a flashlight is circulating on WhatsApp group chats and social media. In the image (see full image below), we can tell that this incident happened sometime at night and it's at a HDB estate.  Image taken from Roads.sg Just so you know, LTA officers are obligated to come down and visit you whenever they receive a complaint about your vehicle. It could be illegal parking matters or of course illegal modifications, which is exactly what the LTA officer is checking for in the image. The best part about these visits is that you won’t even know about them! Upon inspection and if found guilty of modification violations, you’ll only hear about their visit through a letter from LTA accompanied with a fine/summon that will probably tear a hole through your *censored*. Why people want to “sabo” you If you’ve done modifications to your car and someone made a complaint against you, it could be a couple of reasons 1.       They have nothing better to do and damn cb 2.       They cannot tolerate the disturbance your car causes to the neighbourhood Generally when people complain, it’s because of No.2. What should you do if you don’t want people to call the polis? LTA has very clear guidelines as to what modifications need or don’t need LTA’s approval. They’ve also included modifications that are specifically not allowed. Everything else not mentioned, is fair game. Taken from LTA.gov.sg Keep within the guidelines and LTA won’t touch your car. As you can see, not everyone appreciates how loud your vehicles are. Especially in residential areas. Like, why? Louder isn’t always better. Facebook comments and feature image taken from Roads.sg Also, we aren't in America where we can own the car for a lifetime. It's just a 10-year lease! Don't need mod lah! Call 1800 2255 582 for the LTA customer service hotline if a car is disrupting your peace.
