Most drivers on the road are just not good drivers, me included. Thankfully with the help of the safety-obsessed Swedish over at Autoliv, they might be way get around bad drivers.

Introducing the 'Torricelli brake', named after the guy who invented the barometer, 17^th century Italian physicist Evangelista Torricelli, it’s basically a giant vacuum attached to a metal plate on the underside of the car. Rigged up to the automatic braking system (a.k.a Volvo's city safety systems and the likes) that you can find in a lot of cars on sale today, the Torricelli brake basically sucks the car harder onto the road to provide a little extra stopping power.

Over 1.360kg of force, specifically.

According to Autoliv, they say that it can decrease braking distances up to 40 percent at speeds up to around 64km/h on wet, dry, and icy surfaces.

However, there are some issues that they are sorting out now. The few obvious ones include, how long does it last, would it perform just as well on gravel and is it re-usable? Of course, the cost of such an installation is going to be an issue too.
