blogentry-133713-0-30071100-1444384069_thumb.pngMotor Trends's 'The World's Greatest Drag Race' returns for the fifth time. Like the years before, ten of what they thought is the best cars face off in a quarter mile drag race. These cars are also Motor Trend's 2015 Best Drivers's Car.

 

These year's cars that are fighting for the glory are namely the Lexus RC F, Cadillac CTS-V, Cadillac ATS-V, Mercedes-AMG GT S, Mercedes-AMG C63 S, Bentley Continental GT3-R, Volkswagen Golf R, Porsche Cayman GT4, Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and the Mazda MX-5.

The manual won because the PDK equipped 911 turbo and the DCT equipped 488 and many other self shifting big cc turbo cars were conveniently left out.

The Mercedes-AMG GT & C63S AMG runs a dual-clutch, Continental GT3-R runs a ZF, Cadillac CTS-V runs the exact same big ass engine as the Corvette except for the handicapped tranny. Like I've quoted previously, all the quick shifting autos are here...

 

911 turbo is 3.8L while 488 is 3.9L and both cars are of Supercars category. So what big cc turbo cars had been left out?

 

Big cc car doesn't equate to more hp or higher top speed. The old saying 'There is no replacement for displacement' no longer valid..

If this is a 0-100km/h drag race, the continental would take the trophy.

Haha when I said 'big' I talking in Singapore sense means not 4-cyl 2.3.

 

So GTR, McLaren 675 etc also counted along with say Veyron. Anyway, they call it worlds greatest drag race, not worlds greatest semi-affordable in US drag race.

 

If you wanted to argue that no replacement for displacement is invalid, due to technology, one can say it wasn't valid even back in 1944 (e.g. 27 litre Merlin vs 44 litre DB603). But displacement still has its advantages, all things being equal.

    I discussed the possibility of living in tiny houses in Singapore in an earlier blog post.
