Due to be revealed on 13^th of October, official images of the G30-codenamed BMW 5 Series in M Sport trim has been leaked onto the net. Spotted over at the Germancarforum, the 5 Series looks very much like a smaller and more athletic version of the 7 Series.

Inside, the new 5 Series mirrors the 7 Series too, with very similar-looking design, switchgear and layout for its dashboard. The steering wheel is new to the 5 Series though.

Said to lose as much as 100kg over its predecessor with the help of its new Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform, the new model should have improved handling characteristics as well as better fuel economy.

Powering the car will be a new family of B series engines. Engine sizes will range from 2.0-litre turbocharged four to a turbocharged V8 for the 550i. The new engines will be paired to a new nine-speed automatic gearbox.
