CEO Oliver Blume has admitted that Porsche is looking into ditching diesel engines altogether by the end of the decade.

In the wake of Volkswagen's Dieselgate emissions scandal, Reuters has found out in an interview with Blume that Porsche will offer a mix of combustion engines, plug-in hybrids and purely electric models over the next 10 to 15 years and will decide by end of the decade whether diesels engines have a chance to exist or not.

The CEO went on to say that the company expects the metropolises in China and Asia to switch to pure electric mobility very soon and also believes that pure combustion engines will be very rare large cities in five years time. The change in rural areas will, however, proceed much more slowly.

That said, the company is currently relying on diesel-powered models, which account for around 15 percent of its global sales, to help it bring down its CO2 emissions. In fact, the upcoming Cayenne will still offer a diesel powertrain.
