Ford has come out with a new technology that will prevent your wheels from crashing hard into a bad pothole.

The pothole can not only damage the rims but also your tyres and even your suspension system. Using Ford's pothole detection technology, the car can sense when a wheel is about to fall into a pothole and adjusts the suspension to limit how far it falls, so that it doesn’t strike the opposite side of the pothole as harshly on exit.

Upon exiting the pothole, the rear wheels are then prep for the impact as the sensors transfer data from the front wheels to the rear.

This technology will be introduced in the all-new Focus which has yet to arrive on our shores.

It will be part of the car's Continuously Controlled Damping system, which monitors the suspension's actions every two milliseconds.
