According to Drive, the Australian magazine spoke to Mazda global boss Akira Marumoto during and interview and they revealed that the company has no interest in making such a car.

“Mazda is a small player and if [you are asking whether] that segment has a high particular priority for Mazda my answer would be no. Therefore we not planning for MPS in the future.”

Marumoto added on that the brand wants to establish itself as a premium alternative to what the Europeans offer, instead of battling out with the never-ending world of hot and ultra-hot hatches.

To do so, the automaker will focus on improving the quality, comfort, and refinement of its models.
