One quarter of the vehicles on the roads in 2026 will be a hybrid
One of the world’s top suppliers for hybrid engine parts claims that mild hybrid vehicles will make up over 25% of all cars by 2026.
Valeo, a French company, made the statement last week as reported by Autonews. The company's innovation Director, Guillaume Devauchelle believes that the number of cars running on mild-hybrid powertrain configurations will rise till reaches 27 million in 2026.
This is possible as compared to regular hybrids, mild-hybrid vehicles require less extra parts, which means that automakers can keep the weight and cost down.
However, as much as the take up rate is improving, Devauchelle reckons cars running fully on petrol will remain “the majority for a long time” as the transition to fully-electric models is going to be a gradual one.
Plenty of car manufacturers have invested in mild-hybrid technology and that has helped Valeo sell $26.5 billion worth of original-equipment automotive parts in 2017.
