Mazda to produce their own straight-six engine

Good news for fans of Mazda. The Japanese company has announced that it is working a new family of straight-six Skyactiv-X engines for its premium models.

Mazda made the announcement during an investor conference and said that the engines will come in both petrol and diesel variants. This comes as a surprise as this is Mazda's first foray into having a straight-six engine in its line up.

The new engines will make use of the brand’s Spark Controlled Compression Ignition technology that will be seen in the new Mazda 3 and also be compatible with mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies.

The company didn’t provide a timeline for the powertrains just yet, nor did it discuss what kind of models will use it.

Moving forward, it is safe to assume that this move will see Mazda try to move up into the premium market with larger models running both rear and all-wheel drive drivetrains.

The only good Mazda I know of is the Miata. It’s built by a handful of Mazda engineers in a shed as a pet project. It makes you wonder what they are doing when they are suppose to be at work.

The Mazda 3 already has a cramp rear, making it rwd means a rear axle has to occupy the rear. If they lengthen the wheelbase and lengthen the hood to fit the straight six ppl will not be able to tell the diff between 3 & 6. Brilliant.

  • Is 'tiny living' really irrelevant in Singapore?

I discussed the possibility of living in tiny houses in Singapore in an earlier blog post. But as we know, it isn't an option to begin with – no thanks, of course, to our lack of land space.  Someone also pointed out that the idea of tiny houses is "romanticised" – which, I don't deny (but hey, that's why it's a dream). While it's clear tiny houses aren't going to work out here, the concept of 'tiny living' is; not just physically but also mentally. Anyone who has lived enough years lo
