Father and son almost get crushed by C-HR with p-plates

TL;DR – A parked C-HR with p-plates suddenly accelerates and almost mauls a father and son at an open-air carpark. Things would have gotten ugly if they had been one second slower.

There can be miracles

While some of us might not be believers, a recent video uploaded on Roads.sg might change your mind.

The incident occurred on 10th September 2021.

Here’s the 35-second video:

A one-second difference between life and death

In an open-air carpark, location unknown, a father and his son casually walk past a cam car.

If you observe the video, you’ll notice a black Toyota C-HR directly opposite the cam car slowly inching forward as the father and son enter the frame. The C-HR then suddenly accelerates and crashes into the cam car just as the lucky duo clears the danger.

If it had been a second earlier, the father and son would have been caught in the collision.

Let’s address the elephant in the room

I’m sure everyone noticed the p-plates on the C-HR.

Could it be because of the driver’s inexperience?

 image.png.fbfd54c3868356e023b5d67c864b76fc.png

Or it could have been a case of the driver talking on his phone? He was wearing his wireless earphones. And, if so, why wasn't his handbrake up?

But, by 2040, no more manual car already. If everyone drives like this in 2040, scary eh!

I’m just glad that by some miracle, a family did not lose a father and a son to a negligent driver.

That the wrong place to put a P-plate. It should be hanged at the top-right corner of the front wind screen.

Foodpanda rider finds two cute sleepyheads on his bike as he gets ready for work

I say, take the day off and let them sleep! As the end of the week creeps around the corner, most of us might lack the motivation to wake up early in the morning and report to work. However, one Foodpanda rider receives a sweet surprise as he gets ready for another day of deliveries. As the rider approaches his motorcycle, he finds two sleepy stray cats using the vehicle as their beds.  Unfazed by the scene, he wakes them up as he tries to turn on the motorcycle. Judging from his actions, it seems that this might be a common occurrence and that these cats are no stranger to the rider. With one cat comfortably splayed out on top of his Foodpanda bag and the other cosied up in a basket, they attempt to return to their beauty sleep. The rider continues to gently shake both animals awake as he needs to get to work immediately. Note: While it might look like it, the rider is not choking the white cat in this portion of the video.  If this isn't the cutest thing you've seen today, then I don't know what is!   Netizens' reactions It's so heart-warming to see this rider being so gentle with the cats. If I was a sleepy cat, I would definitely pick this spot to sleep in too!     ======== Receive a $10 PayNow transfer for every submission we publish on Facebook! Simply WhatsApp us ➡️https://bit.ly/3c6JERA

Newly recommended road cycling rules — Do they actually matter?

The Review On 1 October 2021, a government panel, Active Mobility Advisory Panel (AMAP), has produced a set of recommendations to review regulations to enhance road safety.   The recommendations consist of the following rules and guidelines:  To continue allowing cyclists to ride abreast in a maximum of 2 on roads with two or more lanes.  Introduce a rule for on-road cycling groups, for them to limit their group length to 5 bicycles. Essentially, this means a limit of five cyclists in a single file or ten cyclists when riding abreast.   Introduce a guideline to ensure a safe distance of 2 lamp posts (30 metres) between riding groups.  Introduce a guideline in the Highway Code and driving test handbooks that require motorists to have a minimum passing distance of 1.5 metres when passing cyclists.   Highly encourage cyclists to sign up for third-party liability insurance. When involved in an accident, third-party insurance will compensate for victims and protect cyclists from potentially expensive claims.  Source: https://www.lta.gov.sg/content/dam/ltagov/getting_around/active_mobility/rules_public_education/rules_code_of_conduct/pdf/2021-10_amap_report_for_the_review_of_on-road_safety.pdf My Two Cents After reading the recommended rules and guidelines, certain thoughts came to my mind:  For recommendations 1 – 3, is there a point behind it? After all, what is the point if cyclists don’t adhere to these recommendations? Unless they are caught in the act of flouting these rules and guidelines, matters will remain the status quo. Besides, recommendations 1 – 3 will only be effective when proper enforcement is present. And this, unfortunately, is a hard nut to crack.   Recommendation 4 will be only and most effective when implemented – but why? Well, it is pretty simple. It is easier to take enforcement actions against motorists than cyclists, as motorists must be licensed and officially registered with government bodies. Hence, it makes motorists more accountable for any actions committed by them.   Lastly, recommendation 5 is the most perplexing recommendation of them all.  Considering a significant number of citizens have no insurance coverage, the tendency to take up third-party liability insurance for cycling is going to be pretty damn low too. Conclusion   Nothing spells ineffectiveness more than this proposed set of recommendations, which practically solves none of the issues at hand. Instead, the proposed recommendation aims to tackle every other matter, except that one crucial matter – Holding cyclists accountable for their actions.  Netizens' Comments This basically summarises all the issues at hand.     --- Thinking of selling your car? sgCarMart Quotz guarantees the highest selling price for your car. 2030 might be the end of the world for car enthusiasts and the sports cars they love

JDM, Euro and Exotic sports cars    For the uninitiated, sports cars consist of 3 main categories: JDM, Euro, and Exotic. These sports cars come in a bunch of varying specifications. Let me give you some examples.     The Renault Megane RS is a 4-cylinder turbocharged, manual, front-wheel-drive Euro sports car.    Likewise, the Mclaren 720S is a V8 twin-turbocharged, automatic, rear-wheel-drive exotic sports car.    Last but not least, we have the iconic JDM street-legal rally car – The Subaru Impreza WRX, a 4-cylinder turbocharged, all-wheel-drive sports car that is available in both the manual and automatic transmission.    The list goes on and on, but you get my intention, don’t you? With dozens of offerings for sports cars of varying specifications, there is always an ideal sports car for you, no matter the specifications you require and whether you can afford it.    Why 2030?    Unless you have been living under a rock, you would have encountered the Electric Vehicle (EV) craze surrounding us lately.     According to the SG Green Plan 2030 (SGP 2030) announced during Budget 2021, we will be looking at significant changes to the status quo. Nope, I am not talking about the rise in petrol duty rates. I am referring to the phasing out of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles by 2040, driven by these three aspects of the SGP 2030:    Cessation of new diesel cars and taxi registrations from 2025    Requirement of newly registered cars to be of cleaner-energy models from 2030; and    All vehicles to run on cleaner energy by 2040 What does it mean for us?    The SGP 2030, coupled with our beloved COE system, is the perfect formula for phasing out ICE cars in Singapore.     Unfortunately, this will spell the demise of JDM, Euro and Exotic sports cars alike. From 2030 onwards, the supply of ICE sports cars will be what we currently have in the market. As such, does this mean that the low supply of ICE sports cars drives its market value up? If you wish to drive your dream Nissan GTR, BMW M4 or Lamborghini Aventador in the future, you better pray hard that its current owner renews its COE. Then again, it would be best to consider the maintenance and upkeep cost required for these ageing cars before purchasing them in the future. Similarly, manual transmission cars will be phased out eventually. Here's why. EVs have an electric motor in place of an ICE vehicle’s “engine” by using a single-speed transmission that regulates their electric motor. Except for the Porsche Taycan, which uses a Two-Speed gearbox. As such, EVs come only in automatic transmissions, and the phasing out of existing manual transmission ICE cars means the demise of manual transmission cars.    Electric Sports Cars    Yes, they are insanely fast. Yes, it produces instantaneous torque. But can we consider them as true-blue sports cars? Aside from the speed and torque, car enthusiasts also seek the pleasure of high engine revs, the burbling exhaust sound and, most importantly, the liberty to modify various car performance components – None of which an electric sports car is capable of fulfilling. Furthermore, the single-speed transmission that regulates its electric motor seems like a bore that takes the fun out of driving compared to manual gear shifts or the quick gear shifting of DCT transmissions.  For those Gen Y & Z car enthusiasts out there, I will do one for you. — Here’s a plea to those of you that currently own any sports car; please renew your COE so that the future generations of car enthusiasts will have a chance to own the car of our (childhood) dream someday. Last Thoughts The golden question here is, will a manual (class 3) license still be relevant in the near future? If it is irrelevant and deemed obsolete, this will remove any segregation between the community’s existing “Class 3 vs 3A” mentality.  If you are unaware of the "Class 3 vs 3A" commotion, read the article below:     --- Thinking of selling your car? sgCarMart Quotz guarantees the highest selling price for your car. Brighten your day with this colourful exchange of words from two Japanese car drivers

TL;DR – A Mazda 3 driver and a Mitsubishi Attrage driver yells at one another at a HDB estate for reasons unknown.   Let’s dive right into the 49-second video. This incident looks like it occurred at a HDB estate (location undetermined), possibly near the entrance of a MSCP. Kimak! The video begins with the grey Mazda 3 driver stepping out of his car, clearly unhappy with the driver in the red Mitsubishi Attrage. . Mazda driver loses all chill and starts cursing at the Mitsubishi driver’s mother (in Malay) and other assorted dialects referencing the female anatomy. The Mitsubishi driver does play a part in this heated exchange as well. He did not project his voice as well as the Mazda driver though, so his voice is muted. What could have sparked this? Looking at the screenshot closely, I think the grey Mazda driver got mad because he was trying to make a left, but he felt obstructed by the Mitsubishi, who was turning right but positioned his car at a weird angle. Red car not in the wrong Technically, one could argue that the Mitsubishi was still within its lane, AND in his defence, he also stopped at the stop line. Online Chatter I also say. That would be a plot twist indeed. Sadly, a lot of things are wrong with the world.     -------- Thinking of selling your car? sgCarMart Quotz guarantees the highest selling price for your car.
