I guess the authorities aren't a huge fan of this tradition!

In the first few seconds, large crowds have gathered on both sides of the road as a mass of motorcyclists roar through the street.

Another video showing a different perspective of this gathering captures the magical moment when the large party passes through the crowd.

Riding through the roads, a cambike manages to get a glimpse of all the bikers waiting patiently at a traffic junction just before the 'parade' starts.

However, it appears that a few of these motorcyclists might have attracted some unwanted attention from the Traffic Police (TP).

Several officers issued fines to these cyclists as they stood around in a large grass patch.

Some of these motorcyclists could be seen not wearing masks while they're waiting.

Gathering during COVID-19

While it is unclear as to why these motorcyclists are getting stopped and fined, one possible explanation could be due to the fact that this event resulted in a major gathering in public.

According to the latest COVID-19 rules in Singapore, individuals are required to wear a mask and stay at least 1 meter away from one another while in public.

Additionally, the TP has stopped motorcyclists during a similar event last year over the Hari Raya weekend.

Netizens' reactions

Upon hearing of this incident, netizens were quick to point out the difference in standards between the treatment of motorcyclists and cyclists by the authorities. Most of them did not see a problem with the event, since it was intended to spread some joy during the festive season.

While we don't know the real reason as to why the authorities have stopped these bikers, it is evident that events like this attract large crowds and could potentially be a new hot spot for the COVID-19 virus.

Point finger to other groups for what?

All these regulation now is to restrict covid spread, so now it's a competition to see who can spread more?? [laugh]

Anyway i think motorcyclist and cyclist are excused masks? Of course when stop moving and get off the bike, then must re-wear lah.

there's always an alternative that does not attract the wrong attention.

I think it is called "unlawful assembly".

https://sso.agc.gov.sg/Act/PC1871?ProvIds=P4VIII_141-

When ppl feel that they are in a big group they feel invincible, can do anything. Like Little India riot. LoL...

The thing with unlawful assembly is that the group must have the intention to commit a crime or carry out an activity that will destroy the peace and tranquillity of the neighbourhood. While I think there are some similarities in which this was a particularly large group of motorcyclists making loud noises, I doubt that there were any harmful or bad intentions with their parade.

They'll park somewhere and then intermingle. Should call plain clothes police and tail them. After they park and start mingling, summon them for breaching safe distancing measures. Then block all the exits ask TP and LTA to roll in and check for illegal modifications, etc. What a party.

  • Is 'tiny living' really irrelevant in Singapore?

I discussed the possibility of living in tiny houses in Singapore in an earlier blog post. But as we know, it isn't an option to begin with – no thanks, of course, to our lack of land space.  Someone also pointed out that the idea of tiny houses is "romanticised" – which, I don't deny (but hey, that's why it's a dream). While it's clear tiny houses aren't going to work out here, the concept of 'tiny living' is; not just physically but also mentally. Anyone who has lived enough years lo
