Drive continental = got money? Think again. Cheapo Volkswagen Golf driver lifts carpark gantry arm to evade parking fees

Was this incident filmed in a bad context?

Or was the Volkswagen driver attempting to evade parking fees?

Watch the following video here:

What Happened?

When approaching the carpark gantry to exit, the Volkswagen Golf driver stopped right before the gantry arm and alighted from his car.

He then proceeds to push the gantry arm such that it automatically lifts. Allowing him to get into his car and escape paying a sum of $5? It's a little blur but it's definitely less than $10.

Update #1 - 14/4/2022

Many netizens have pointed out that this might be a case of the gantry operator instructing the VW driver to lift it up due to a spoiled gantry.

Well, that may be possible.

What do you think?

Maybe? Or there might be lots of honking around the area which prompted the contributor to film the video.

Hard to tell since some car sharing platforms don't label their name on their cars.

Walao, whoever posted this can don’t anyhow before you get POFMA’d.

There’s always 2-sides of the coin. Maybe the operator on the other side of the gantry speaker told him to do it if he wasn’t able to do it? Sometimes the servos of the gantry fail. So he was told to open it as a very last resort?

Think it through. You wouldn’t like getting falsely framed or having someone you know or love also framed for being told to do something that seems illegal in the eyes of a 3rd party now would you? Just live and let live.

If he did something wrong, the gantry cameras there would capture and have his information already. If it was a platform-sharing car, the owner of the car can just report to the platform to the relevant authorities.

Or y’all just doing it for the sake of $10?

No lah...recently there was a news article by someone who calculated that In SG, your salary has to be above $8k to afford a car, a basic japan car. If he is driving a VW, then he must be rich lah.....

Why people always think got car = got bottomless bank account?

It just means more debt, more taxes, more fees, more maintenance costs...poor drivers have to look for all means to save.

Because, apparently, most people nowadays live for shaming strangers on social media. Can't sleep well without it.

  • Car sharing Getgo vehicle blatantly ignored the red light and hit a taxi

A common car-sharing Getgo vehicle gets caught on camera blatantly ignoring the existence of the red traffic light. Strange since this seems like the fundamental essentials of driving theory.  This resulted in the vehicle side sweeping an oncoming taxi and, hitting into it and resulted in debris inconveniently left on the road.  It's extremely fortunate that this blatant disregard for traffic rules did not result in a more severe and damaging accident. It might be wise for Getgo to con

A pet peeve of mine is when commercial vehicles (Eg. Vans, lorries, tipper trucks) travel on lane 2 of the expressway.  And I am certain this is a pet peeve of many drivers in Singapore.  Due to the speed limit imposed on these vehicles, they often cause a slow down in the lane they are travelling in (assuming traffic is clear and they are driving under the speed limit).  However, just because they are commercial vehicles, does it give them the right for passenger vehicles to "bul

Social media is a double-edged sword. Despite the benefits and connectivity it brings, social media can cause harm to you as well. Watch this video to find out how: IMG_7241.MP4 What Happened? All it took was for a Volkswagen driver to upload this 8-second video to screw himself over. The Volkswagen driver was filmed by his passenger speeding down an unnamed expressway in Singapore at above 200km/h before hitting a top speed of 219km/h. "This is my type of ther

Honda Airwave gets engaged in a hot pursuit after rear-ending a motorcycle and attempting to flee

This incident was so intense that it kept my eyes peeled on the screen for the entire duration of the video.  Watch this attempted hit and run here: What Happened? This incident occurred at Woodlands Avenue 1. While at a red light, a Honda Airwave emerged from behind but could not brake in time.  And as a result, he rear-ended a stationary motorcyclist. Another motorcyclist dismounted and came forward to check on the motorcyclist who had just been hit.
