Diesel engine oils??

Though this thread is targeted at genie, i figured it would be good to post this up for everyones knowledge.

As most here know, i sold my 180 and bought a 2nd hand jap import Sera (only been used in japan).

anyway i was thinking of doing an engine flush as the 5E-FHE is very sensitive to poor oil flow. I do know the downsides of using engine oil flush and was thinking of using something that cleans the galleries at a slower rate (e.g. autoRX). Then it occured to me that diesel engine oils while being the same, have much more cleaning agents than our regular types.

I have been told its safe for useage in cars, but i would like a confirmation from people who have either used it for an extended period of time or are knowledegeable in this field. Also does anyone know what the cleaning rate is compared to products like autoRX?

Btw i do intend to use it for roughly 10000kms with both an oil and filter change at the 5000kms and 10000kms marks.

i use both a-rx and LC for flushing, as well as OWS

no diff b/w any 3

but i think a-rx has best effect followed by not much for other 2

CH-4 and onwards are very good in soot control and cleaning

as long as its meeting ur SL/SM..etc requirements should be fine

u can use it perm if it meets the requirements..better :p

It's better if you choose dual rated oil. API SL/CI-4 would be good, heard that Aussie sell Mobil Delvac 1 real cheap, thought you may try some.

Best cleaning effect is to run short OCI.

I suggest you try Schaeffers S9000. Its cheap and good. Another oil recommended by Genie in his post is Delo400 which is very think.

soot etc in the cylinder isnt really my worry in the long run. its the sludge in the oil galleries that i'm worried about as the 5E-FHE is well known to throw engine bearings when there is some oil starvation below the pistons.

I'm don't know anything abt OCI, and moly and stuff like that. I only know abt ratings from API etc. but i do know, even with ratings, diff oils have diff properties when it comes to cleaning, shearing etc.

I was targeting the 0W40 delvac 1 incidentally [laugh] .

is it a dual rated oil??

Neutral Newbie

Did you mean Delvac1 5w40? It's CI4 & SL rating. For a city driving, use 30 weight oil, at least CH4 rating for better soot control (as Genie told to me) [:p]

(edited)

might be 5w40 rather than 0w40. i go check tomorrow. I understand SL rating, but whats CI4 and whats CH4?

I will need 40w as i go on 3/4hr long-distance drives fairly often.

CI-4+ are the current highest diesel rating for high output turbo diesel engine. Delvac 1 is the oil to go as you are not able to get Schaeffer over there.

Go for short OCI first. Maybe every 5k first then extend to 10k interval.

OCI = oil change interval

Thanks. Delvac 1 it is then [thumbsup]

I'll be running short OCI permanantly here as once i'm done with 2 or 3 Delvac oil changes, I'm going back to my usual elf fully syth as it costs me ard $40 for 5l.

Very safe unless you are burning oil then maybe will kill your cat due to large amount of metallic ash (anti-wear additives).
