Andrewkb Neutral Newbie April 1, 2003 Share April 1, 2003 I was reading a magazine the other day and came across an analysis of different light weight wheel nuts. One point was mentioned: The effect of 1kg saved on the wheel (by using the nuts) is equal to 10kg saved on the whole vehicle ! Is this true ? ↡ Advertisement
Arkaneslayer Neutral Newbie April 1, 2003 Share April 1, 2003 i read something similar in torque magazine this month ... 10kg... removing the spare tyre would have a similar effect i suppose. the question is how is the 10kg translate to power gains.. GDIzen Neutral Newbie April 1, 2003 Share April 1, 2003 By reducing the unsprung weight, the power can be transmitted to the ground more effectively and less inertia to turn the wheels, hence faster response! CAVEAT: Although the lug nuts would have to be combined with lightweight wheels to make a real difference from the stock rims. ie not much effect if you're using them with heavy rims IHMO. Saaber Neutral Newbie April 1, 2003 Share April 1, 2003 The more weight you can remove from the car, the better HP/weight ratio and hence better acceleration and top speed... The same concept as the Lotus Elise....
Mondeo Neutral Newbie April 1, 2003 Share April 1, 2003 (edited) Becareful those nuts too, I saw at PG there was a Type R fly its one front wheel to track side and whole car stratched a long line on the track. all becoz of those nuts can catch the pressure and spin mot that strong. French_porn Neutral Newbie October 19, 2003 Share October 19, 2003 (edited) are the taiwan made ones worth it? i mean are they durable? Edited October 19, 2003 by French_porn
Ghostling Neutral Newbie October 19, 2003 Share October 19, 2003 Hello French_porn , I had some feedback from my friends about the cheaper nuts. They were saying that the cheaper nuts are more prone to break. They were saying brands like RAYS , ENKKI are better.. By the way , racing nuts should be tighten manually using a torque wrench. Hopes this helps! just my 2 cents worth. good luck!
Saaber Neutral Newbie October 19, 2003 Share October 19, 2003 usually the taiwan made one is not so durable...
Saaber Neutral Newbie October 19, 2003 Share October 19, 2003 Now the trend is not to use those lightweight aluminium nuts as they will crack eventually if air gun is being used to lossen the nut...stainless steel nut is a better options but they don't come cheap too... French_porn Neutral Newbie October 19, 2003 Share October 19, 2003 (edited) what is the difference in the weight between the stainless steel one and the aluminium? and what is the weight of the nuts to be consider lightweight?
