Renegade Neutral Newbie February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 Been seeing this on-off in the forum - when talking about Asian-made cars, sometimes someone would say "....but that one more conti feel....". I'm confused - what is meant by "conti feel" for an Asian-made car? Is there such a thing first place? ↡ Advertisement
Nutty 4th Gear February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 For "conti-feel", I'll listen to the sound of door closing.

Nutty 4th Gear February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 Mazda3 gives me some kind of "conti-feel" in a jap car.
Carlover76 Neutral Newbie February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 If you try closing the door or closing the bonnet of continental cars, you will feel that it is very heavy and the metal used are very thick. On the other hand, if you tried that on the japanese car, you will feel that the metal used is very thin and light weight. Nowadays, most Korean cars built quality are similar to the continental cars as they have to follow the Euro standards in order to enter the europe market unlike the Japanese makes. They cut down on the thickness of the metal so that the fuel efficiency will be better as the car is lighter which consume less petrol.
Nutty 4th Gear February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 also, if the finishing on a car is good, then I also label it conti-feel. One way to check is the lining on the roof of the car where it links with the front and rear window. Compare a Jap car and a Conti car and see the difference. Magfocus 5th Gear February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 Jap makes are in europe too, aren't they? Btw, I don't own a jap car
Rtth84 1st Gear February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 then the jap just add weight to their panels become conti feel already. same goes for china. making heavy panels doesnt seem that difficult. anyway i dun think conti-feel is all about weight. Magfocus 5th Gear February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 No. 5 is just plain rubbish. Conti doesn't mean BMWs, Mercs etc. Can be Peugeots, Opels etc.

I'm confused - what is meant by "conti feel" for an Asian-made car? Is there such a thing first place? To me it would means heavy, single digit FC and interior surrounded with leather. Carlover76 Neutral Newbie February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 Besides weight, probably the other factor is the overall build quality including all the fittings on the interior and exterior as I notice some continental cars have extra screw on the four side walls to ensure extra tightness. Mooscenic 1st Gear February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 I reckon the term "Conti feel" is subjective. I'd own both conti and jap cars and to put it simply, Conti Feel is as such... 1. Conti car doors's are generally heavier and they close with a solid tump. 2. Conti cars generally have higher and more superior sound insulation than jap cars so you will feel concooned in the cabin and less intrusive noise. 3. Conti cars have thicker glass panels, making noise less intrusive as well. 4. Conti car's suspension is more pliant (Depending on what make), thus feels more comfortable. Also during high speed driving, conti cars are generally more solid and planted to the ground as I reckon it is due to the weight of the car. 5. Conti car's stalks and switch gear are more tactile and feels more solid. 6. Conti car's interior is more padded and softer to the touch, as compared to jap makes that uses hard plastic and not damped or padded. 7. Conti cars are mostly lined and all parts are covered with material, even the door lining have lint material. Well, i think some jap cars also have the above and thus, makes them "conti feel" too, though i reckon they are in the more luxurious segment. Carlover76 Neutral Newbie February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 Brother, what a good comarison and I agree with that! Most japanese built looks fragile by the outlook and only those in the luxurious segment of japanese range can be on par with continental cars but they cost more than the continental cars. King 1st Gear February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 u for got to add, conti feel also meant car pick up slower than jap/koean make... but when reach top speed, super stable
Mooscenic 1st Gear February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 Kekekeke... Thanks! Well, 1 have to really try and drive a conti in order to know and feel the diff... A conti car is unlike a jap car and vice versa. If 1 has been driving a jap makes for all his life, he will never feel and understand the diff... Small little things like glass panel being thick and also the lint/suede material lining the door makes a diff to the car...
