Clazio71 Neutral Newbie March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 I think it depends on the collision cos if the car A that merges to the lane first got hit by the slower car B, eg. front right bumper of B hit left door of A, then it should be B's fault le... Insurance will always find a guilty party to push all the responsibilities to him but if its 50-50, both sides suffer with an increase in premium... ↡ Advertisement
Picantorian Neutral Newbie March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 i guess the car ahead of you will have the right of the way when approaching merging lane..but if i din recall wrongly, cars on the right side have the right of way, if both is on par.. but we dun practise this in sg lor~ just look at the way drivers do so at the 2 merging lanes from PIE to CTE.. Nlatio Turbocharged March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 Big lorry, big truck, bus, big big vehicle if driver got balls, alway got the right of way.... just look at some of the bus uncle drive out of bus stop or lorry changing lane... you better stop for him and give way, even though you got right of way ..... .... so moral of the story, you drive big vehicle and your balls same size as your vehicle, you always got the right of way.... kekekek.... Qpik Supercharged March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 hi guys need some opinion. If 2 cars go into a merging lane at the same speed, who will have the right of way?? where driving is concerned especially in spore where our car cost an arm n leg, i dun rely on right of way all the time. best to go for win-win situation. in spore, dun be stupid to play "hiong" & ended up in accidents, then u will waste yr time n monies. cars might be same speed but comes merging, 1 car will definitely be ahead. to me, i might be the car on the right but if car on my left is in a hurry, i wld gladly give way. but, dun ever ever come n tell me car on the right hv right of way especially if the car on the right is behind & expect car on the left to slow down & let it pass first. Jasonllh Neutral Newbie March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 actually if 2 cars at same speed and size merge (without passengers)......not wanting to give way.....wouldn't the car on the right "feel" safer cos the other driver is nearer to metal scrapping aka point of contact.....ha ha always stay on the right???? Clif_yip Neutral Newbie March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 Ideally the vehicle on the right lane as the right of way, but it also depend on which is the vehicle ahead before the lane merge.
Liping24 Neutral Newbie March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 There is a road from Dairy farm(upper bukit timah rd) turning into Hillview, near a StandChart bank. That is a very classic two right turning traffic merging into a single lane immediately after the turn. The act of merging into the single lane has to take place DURING the right turn itself, at the traffic light junction, and must be completed ten meters after the right turn. I wonder whether any frequent accidents over there or not? Anyone stays there can comment? I used that junction twice when I visited my rich frined in Hillview Heights. It was 'dangerous' sitting in my friends' car when she executed the "whose car is bigger and faster, gets the right of way stunt'.
Tploh Clutched March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 in any circumstances where there is not indication on the road or signs, vehicle on the right has the right of way. I thought the one in the front...
Windwaver Turbocharged March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 that reminded me of an incident few days ago. was driving near to end of merging lane and didn't expect any cars coming on to squeeze thru (which i usually let pass cos i got no balls ma!!!)it was pouring then and at nite. suddenly corner of my eyes spotted dim headlights and almost beside me. i was like WTF .....it is almost one car lane already and you still must squeeze onto road shoulder. anyway i was on the centre of the road already and couldn't risk braking hard in the heavy rain. i proceeded on course and no choice but to drive him further out into road shoulder (rather than me going out into the main expressway oncoming cars at high speed). think he jam his brakes and almost swerved into the road shoulder metal. even though i drive a bigger and taller car, i think it is no fun and definitely a waste of egos or watever bravery u call that. people can get hurt. I'm exactly the opposite . There was this car and me side by side and both of us happen to slow down to let the otehr party go 1st , lucky I floor it, if not sure kena railings
Ivan78 Neutral Newbie March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 Essentially, we all know that "right of way" at the end of the day serves no purpose, except:- 1) In cases of accident, insurance to decide which parties pay more.... 2) A reason in some cases for people to just use their horn which they think is very under-utilised.... 3) A reason to explain why they don't have to give way to some poor chap in a difficult situation.... We all can only admit that some of us (maybe myself included) are only a bunch of selfish drivers, dun like being overtaken, dun like somebody cutting in front of you, etc etc etc.... Many times we already see the problem coming... but yet we make the choice to increase the risk of an accident, rather than choosing a defensive action..... Right bros??? Or someone begs to differ that he is an angelic driver?
Guyver 1st Gear March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 if hit side by side, usually 50-50 rite? both also suffer.. Yes .... so give way ....
Legendary Clutched March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 Car on the right has the right of way but also depending on the speeds of both cars... The faster car will overtake the other car but then it's always good to signal cos getting into accident is a troublesome matter... where got pple signal in the merging lane one? Strat 6th Gear March 27, 2007 Author Share March 27, 2007 actually i dun mind giving way to others.. but there are some *!@#! drivers that purposely come behind you and squeeze in a merging lane. really $@#$@#$ drivers
Cumzilla 4th Gear March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 normally if in front is merging lane before traffic light, and cars all queue on right, while a few go to the left, u will know these few buggers are the hiong types
Theoldjaffa Hypersonic March 28, 2007 Share March 28, 2007 me lor.. i find that if i signal left (when i am on the right side of the merging lane), people will tend not to accelerate to cut me.
Memory Neutral Newbie March 28, 2007 Share March 28, 2007 Me too. At driving school we were taught to signal right when in leftmost lane to merge. MUST to do. I try to do it as long as I remembers!
Ivan78 Neutral Newbie March 28, 2007 Share March 28, 2007 Yeap, fully agree.... I dun mind letting go of my accelerator if the guy wants to squeeze up from behind..... But there are times when have to step on brake so hard until stop just so that the guy can cut through smoothly.... Remember an incident couple of weeks ago.... at merging lane, got a lancer behind me on the left... at first thought was evo cos the exhaust pretty loud and he has the intention to cheong in front... so let go accelerator thinking that he might feel i'm too slow.... in the end i still have to brake to a stop so that we dun hug side by side.... ↡ Advertisement
