Vit4wd 1st Gear March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 http://www.sgcarmart.com/new_cars/auth_car_info.php?AC=393 This continental make's price is almost the same as the 3 Jap's. OMV is reasonably high too. Time to try something different - great conti prestige, ride and handling at Jap price. ↡ Advertisement

Vit4wd 1st Gear March 27, 2007 Author Share March 27, 2007 Have you sat in one before? The French are renowned for their compact body and spacious interior. Slow? Can it be more sluggish than the Cefiro 2.0?

(low 17K km mileage) Great value! http://www.sgcarmart.com/main/info-2AjM7mKf-1159.html Or a similar age Jap Cefiro 2.0 @ $6.3K p.a.? http://www.sgcarmart.com/main/info-2Ejv4rxP-1163.html Or a similar age Thai assembled Camry 2.0 @ $6.5K p.a.? Vit4wd 1st Gear March 27, 2007 Author Share March 27, 2007 (edited) But I think most car buyers still feel more comfy with a Jap. I wonder why. Labour and manufacturing costs are higher in France than in Thailand (Camry) or Japan (Cefiro, Accord). At such rock bottom prices, the 407 is excellent value. Brand new at $89K and 2 yr old at $72K ? That can't get you even a 2nd hand 2 yr old 1.6l Jap car in 1997. A brand new Perodua Kancil 850 was selling for $65K in 1999. I remembered a brand new Peugeot 605 2.0 was selling for $180K in 1993. Edited March 27, 2007 by Vit4wd

Vit4wd 1st Gear March 27, 2007 Author Share March 27, 2007 (edited) Think you have listed out ALL its advantages Forgot to mention the solid OOMPH when you shut the doors, Lexus silent interior, superb steering feel & rock solid rd holding no Jap cars can match. I drove a friend's 407 over the wkend & was impressed. Still thinking of it now. * I am sure Vantage will be very happy to read this. Toeknee_33 Turbocharged March 27, 2007 Share March 27, 2007 What is this halo about Conti cars? Peugeots/Citroens/Opels/Fiats/Renaults and to a certain degree, VWs, are your everyday bread and butter cars. Yes they are more expensive to buy cos you are paying for the high Euro, but at the end of the day they are no different from your average Japmobile. What makes a 407 better than an Accord, Camry or Cefiro besides its "perceived" Conti superiority and rarity value? Its small inside, its 138bhp engine is a almost a decade old, and not very powerful, its 4speed AT is supposedly adaptive but you have to adapt to it, and its no better built. And dont hold your breath when it comes to reliability...your wallet might wilt. Cheers!
