Driving a Renault Megane 2 1.6(A) for almost 2 yrs liao

Good things:

- Great looks

- Very low passenger roll rate when cornering

- Good FC for a conti at 12KM/L

- Lots of safety features from fibre-glass front sides, engine mounted on a "snap" bar, power window that will come down when it hits something etc etc.

- Excellent original speakers

- Quiet and subtle ride

- Lots of electornic gadgets

- Huge boot @ 520 L

Bad things:

- Lousy HU that cannot be changed (unless u don't wanna use the steering wheel controls)

- Engine feels rough compared to a typical jap/korean make at [shakehead]

- Default battery is of inferior make and will die on u fast([furious]

You can change to a good blaupunkt or VDO HU and still be able to use the steering wheel controls.

I wonder whats up with the battery now or that you got. Between me and the next owner, the battery on the megane (previous version) lasted all 5 years from when i bought it till he scrapped it.

at times... the lifespan of battery differs...

Even for Astra, some owner's battery dies within the 1st year... some last up to almost 2 years and still going strong..

For the HU, if you can get the proper wiring harness, then you can change it... Maybe you can look for Hannson.. I'm sure you know him from RCC.

As for slow pick up, which entry level conti not like that? C4, Focus and 307 also sama.... but past the low speed, the fun come in... Surely you have brought your Megane up to 150 and above, right?

Hmm, good to hear that, coz now using non-original batt (give up liao). On Varta now. Apparently quite a number of megane 2 owners in RCC face the same batt-dying-under-1-year problem. hopefully no more heart attacks anymore. [lipsrsealed]

eh.. unless u consume alot of power thru your ICe, I would suggest you keep to the standard amp for your car. otherwise you risk killing your alternator or something related to it.

1)which workshop to do minor servicing with reasonable charge

>> Go Espace for minor servicing cost arn $120-$145

>> Go JB for authorized servicing at half the local dealer price.

2)any extra service to do on the convert motor

>> Can go to Wearnes to lubricate the joints when necc.

3)any re-fine tune ecu for this car

Unfortunately not. I'm a safe driver. Onli brought it up till 130+ [sweatdrop]

If you have chance to go NSH, ....high speed travel is extremely stable and easy to drive unlike my previous jap of the same capacity. 150 km/h is easy to reach. 180km/h in NSH is still very stable.

from stationary, pickup is slow, but once at speed, it can do as well or better than more powerful cars such as Accord EuroR.
