I got a car which I intend to scrap soon but it has a nice plate which my friend agreed to buy from me.

Is it possible for me to just sell him the licence plate? Are there fees payable by me? Can anyone enlighten me how to do this?

best is to check with LTA as LTA will have it's own "calculation" on how much to pay for transfer fee sweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gif

I actually checked LTA website but it seems that any retained number must be for original owner's new car or existing car only. Like that even if I retain the plate, only I can use. How to transfer to someone else?

If really have to sell my whole car to him, then get him to scrap, then get him to retain the plate, that's a whole lot of paperwork and probably fees?

That's what i did for my current number. Got to pay for the transfer fee for the car to be transfered to my name. Used car dealers can handle the paperwork for you when they scrap the car.

there was another thread on this issue recently and someone had a easier way of getting it done. you might want to do a search.

Hi Fondue, you mean you bought your current plate from someone else and yuo actually bought his whole car first?

Tried searching the threads but couldn't find anyone discussing this unfortunately.

Thanks a lot Fondue! The easier way it seems is to go through a dealer but that is if you want to buy the plate and i think the dealer already has the plate on an existing car (eg starlet). For a situation like mine, if i intend to scrap the car anyway, but want to sell the plate before that, do dealers do this kinda business?

No one knows?

Another question, does anyone know if you scrap your car, you can get rebate for insurance premium? Road tax I think can but any idea how long it takes?

digging up a old thread after doing a search. i am in a slightly different situation.

any bros/sis have successfully transfer a retain plate to his/her spouse or family members? While this is in theory not possible, some dealers say u can try to appeal and some have actually been successful.

i am in a similar situation which my wife and i really want to use back that number and i want her to start accumulating NCDs.

Anyone?

Your question not clear leh. You getting a new car and transferring? The dealer can do that.

Best part is still need to get insurance in order for the car to be transferred.
